Review Janus - Sydney

Good food, good setting - high ceiling. The food was slow to come out. One hour for a group of 12, I wish it were quicker or that they told us it would take that long.

Food is exceptionally good here. Unfortunately the table service does not match it, as others have commented. The vegan bowl is an outstanding dish and at $18 is simply great value unmatched around town. The crispy skin king salmon is a must for fish lovers.

What a great little bar. The service was to our table. Outstanding. Gave us some free Mezze, will be back here again. Thanks Team.

Not bad, mainly let down by the feeling we were sitting at an office reception. The food was quite nice, and as we were in a large group we put our order in prior, so service was quick. The pasta dishes looked particularly nice, but were quite expensive.

For a cafe that is situated on the ground level of an office building with nothing in terms of interior, it's very overpriced. The menu ranges from around $18 for a sandwich to nearly $30 for a fish and chips. The food itself wasn't bad, but it was nothing special and not worth the price they're charging.

We were promptly seated when we went on a weekday lunch. The menu items all seem reasonably priced ($15-20), with a range of antipasti, pizzas, burgers, pastas, salads and paninis on offer. Amongst the mains we ordered the food was a bit of a hit and miss - the burgers were probably the highlight (as was the complimentary bread basket). The fresh apple juice was also amazing!

Tomato soup was the special today and it was superb. The staff are 50:50. If you hit the right 50%, it turns out to be an all round great experience, if you hit the wrong 50% then as per other reviews you end up asking why did I come here?!! Hence my risk weighting. Assume it's a 3 and make your decision on that basis. All round decent cafe otherwise, in a central location.

Food is amazing, but the service is terrible. Wait staff are so slow to approach you and it took us 20 mins to just get menus and another 15 minutes to order, lucky we weren't in a rush. Great food but not worth going if you have limited time

Beautiful city cafe!
The staff are really friendly and the food and coffee is excellent.
Fresh ingredients and quick service.
Perfect place for a mid week lunch!

Food is a 4 out of 5, service is inconsistent inside the restaurant although good outside. I don't often write reviews, but do feel the need to drop a note on the service inside the restaurant. Working across the road, I've come here nearly every day since it opened and spend a lot of money here.

I sat down today by the barista and ordered take away. I sat down to to wait while reading through some work documents and ended up eating there and got asked not to sit there because it is dine in only by the Manager. Advice to management, seriously think about your service and your attitude. I come here every day, it is not busy. Why would you bother being rude to a customer for something so trivial.

A packed outdoor bar on bligh street in the City, with plenty of people there for drinks after work. They sell small tapas and pizzas red, drinks, including cocktails. I got a bellini, passionfruit flavoured with a small sugar rim, as well as a beer. Not too expensive and service was fast and polite.

I decided to visit here as wanted to try somewhere new. I had the Porridge and a Mocha to takeaway. The difference between takeaway and dine in is quite significant. If I decided to eat in for my Porridge it would've been another $5. The porridge tasted really good and had a nice balance of mixed berries and crunch from the coconut and almond crumble. It came with raspberry vanilla jam but still wasn't quite sweet enough for me so added so some sugar. The Mocha didn't like a usual Mocha nor taste like one so not sure if it was a wrong coffee but still tasted good.

Went for lunch with a table of 10 people today, our table was outside and it was quite cold but the staff were very attentive and immediately brought 2 heaters to our table to keep us warm. The service was great, all of our food came out at the same time which is always something I look for when going out to meals with large groups.

Everyone ordered different things on the menu such as burgers, salads and wraps. Everyone was thoroughly impressed with the food, the chicken avocado salad was the winning dish out of them all! Everyone has said they will definitely be back, preferably on a more sunny day!

Great coffee and friendly service. However, diners should be made aware that when you dine in the price increases quite substantially.

On the menu the spicy chicken panini is yum (but did not warrant the recent price increase from $9.90 to $10.90 take away..). Also recommend the chicken & quinoa salad and the burgers (burgers are best eaten in!).. Also something to be aware of is the lamb on the lamb panini has quite a bit of fat on the edges, if you like fatty lamb you will enjoy it, but I prefer no fat on my meat.

Overall, good quality & (mostly) good value. But what's better is that they serve consistently good coffee.

Janus is located on level 6 of the shopping centre. While level 5 is the food court area, level 6 is the more up market yet still affordable area, with restaurants such as Xanthi and Sky Phoenix. It was pretty easy to find as we just went up the lift from Market Street and there it was, right in front of us (where Speido used to be). It was a little chilly where we were sitting out the front of the restaurant and from pa

More than a business lunch destination, Janus offers sophisticated Italian fare in a buzzing city location. On the corner of Castlereagh, Hunter and Bligh Street, Janus is perfect for people watching – diners can sit outside and watch as office workers briskly carry about their day.

Interesting space, Friendly service, Tempting cakes and pastries, Comfy seating — check out the atrium!
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
Throwing down the gauntlet to other CBD cafés to lift their game, this one gives you the opportunity to dine on an architectural podium at the city's business end. It's a riot of vaulting spaces and exposed building innards, including a thermal skin and an eye-catching atrium. The elliptical design is also uber-green, allowing you the chance to marvel at cooling that uses old-fashioned airflow rather than air-conditioning (how novel). To eat, the thin, crisp, pizzas perform best. The Funghi E Patate ($16) - featuring potato, mushrooms, truffled Pecorino and broccoli is the best vegetarian pizza I've had all year. You'll also like the Pancetta ($16) with caramelised pear, rocket and chilli, teamed... ...with Insalata D Rucola E Radicchio ($14) for a balanced lunch. I also dipped into an easy-to-eat pasta, the Linguine Con Cozze E Gamberetti ($14/$21) with mussels, garlic prawns and chilli. Supplement it with one of the well-chosen and eminently quaffable Italian whites - the Vill

Huge disappointment. What an absolute disgrace! Booked for 10 at noon on a Friday lunchtime. It took an hour and a quarter for meals to come out. Meanwhile, the waitress never returned to our table after taking only one drink order. She also never apologised when one person's meal came out a good 10 - 15 minutes after everyone else. Janus advertise gluten free options on their menu but when trying to communicate my gluten free requirements to the waitress, I was met with very few options. Merely, a salad. No gluten free pizza or pasta when many Italian restaurants provide these options. The waitress handled my gluten free requests so poorly - snappy, unhelpful, not accommodating. Walked away very annoyed with this place!

Love love love. Hands down the best reasonably priced lunchtime food in Sydney. I have taken many people here and am never disappointed. Good food, wine and coffee. The service can be a little questionable sometimes and it can be hard to secure a table but the food is always spot on. Recommendations - any of the salads or sandwiches/ wraps.

30% markup for eat-in is ridiculous!

Lovely cakes. Must try their cakes. Lovely Blackcurrant dome and white chocolate mango dome. I will be back to try their lunch as the food looks pretty good too.

Beautiful location, coffee and food - but expensive. The coffee and pastries are exquisite but the service can sometimes be shoddy and the prices are very expensive.

WiFi in the CBD. Everything suggests this venue will be a success - nestled at the forecourt of one of Sydney's newest icon buildings.
Coffee was outstanding. Service was attentive. Choice of cakes and light eats was tempting. And WiFi was on tap. Strangely rare in the centre of Sydney's CBD.
Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions - can see the impact this venue will have on the local CBD cafe scene.
Oh, when paying, check the atrium. Truly amazing.
Well done!
