An outstanding gallery, truly the mainstay of Sydney’s art scene. The remodelling of their classic rooms is a must see once fully reopened, and the Archibald always attracts significant talent and some truly breathtaking portraits. Also don’t sleep on the free exhibits downstairs - oftentimes there are some understated and lesser-known (read: not mainstream enough for the average/passive consumers of art) artists displaying real killer stuff.

Love coming here for the special exhibits. The permanent exhibits quite good too- best place to spend the day if you are bored , so much to see and there's food here too which ain't too badly priced. Clean, well maintained, air conditioned and spacious. Currently building a new section so I can't wait to see it when it's done!

I skipped the Archibald exposition and really enjoyed seeing the permanent collections and the building itself. In December 2022 when the new building opens it is truly going to be a spectacular attraction. The restaurant has a great view over the city and laudable dining. Entry during construction is a bit convoluted especially during rainy days, be careful!

If you love art, the art gallery is a must visit. Much of the gallery is free to access, with only special exhibitions requiring a paid ticket. The free section is separated into different themes and eras, and is a great showcase with an emphasis on Australian artists across more than one floor. The works of art include paintings, sculptures and other objects, photographs and film. There's also a couple of sit down food restaurants/cafes, a gift shop, and great restroom as well as hand sanitising facilities. Staff are also friendly and helpful.

What a great way to spend an afternoon at the Art Gallery, viewing the Matisse Exhibition, stopping at the Cafe for a smooth blend cup of coffee and desert, a white chocolate lamington! Then finishing it all off at the book shop that has so much to offer; from art books, gifts, catalogues, art and craft products and accessories. This is a must for everyone. A place to relax, sit, viewing spectacular art and let the world go by....

Missed the grand entrance experience since the site was under construction, however, inside blew my expectations. I came during midday so there was quite a few visitors. The historical paintings were sensational, bigger in reality than seen online. The brush strokes are very impressive. There were a few Australian impressionist artists such as, Frederick Mccubbin, which was great to see on display. My teacher in high school had been raving on about those artists and the actual experience of seeing their artworks on display is so special and different compared to classwork observations. The deep red background is also a nice tone for the artworks, and compliments the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the library was not available on the day. The dynamic shift from red to blue is quite refreshing, with the inclusion of landscape artworks. Again, they were phenomenal. The display of sculptures was nice but you must be aware of your location in case of some accidents. The security guards weren't in my way, in fact they were a good safety measures. The downstairs held the Archibald Exhibiton and the comparison of historical vs. Contemporary artworks was separated nicely. The only downside had to be no service, otherwise nothing too major. I love how we got involved with the voting. There were easy instructions and thankfully WiFi to connect. Lastly, I saw Daniel Boyd's, Treasure Island, exhibition and the atmosphere curated was dark and connective. There was a wide selection of aboriginal dotted artworks and you could see the time and effort you each artwork. Some of his artworks were untitled so it was a nice way to interpret the artwork from a personal level without the artist statement.

Covid safe entry, well timed regulated exhibition. A surprise around every corner. Matisse well curated and flows perfectly. Then the excellent Art Express exhibition. And the Polynesian influence on Matisse.
