Review Urban Greek - Hobart

A restaurant that would make the Greek gods proud. We got the banquet and expected tiny meals on big plates. No sir, Zeus wouldn't approve of that! Make sure you starve until your Hercules 6 pack shows before entering. We got the banquet with seafood. Top 3: Service was super friendly and attentive. Dips: must have been made by cupid because I was in love. Prawns: Poseidon was a bit tight by sparring one prawn, but the ouzo sauce the chef makes will rock your boat. Grilled lamb: you know when you're full and everything else is good but you might not finish it? When this comes you'll have to sacrifice some breathing room, shift it into your lungs to make space. By far the best lamb I've had in my life. Highly highly recommend. This place has raised the bar for 5 stars

Celebrated birthday here last night and I have to say, the food was delicious but customer service is exceptional. We had a birthday cake but didn't expect staff to take it out for us and even light up a fireworks style birthday candle without any extra charges. Thanks for going above and beyond for us, will definitely come back :)

Very pleased with our dining experience. We ordered the $65 Hippocrates banquet - excellent selection of dishes and all delicious. Very generous serving sizes which meant we could not fit in dessert.

Just wow. First time eating at a Greek restaurant, came here to celebrate my mums birthday with our first trip down to Tasmania. I just love these new experiences and this place was just so satisfying as every dish we ordered was delicious and presented well.

Probably one of the best hospitality experiences ever. Warm, friendly staff, amazing food, generous atmosphere. This is is a seven star Greek food experience. And I’ve spent a lot of time in Greece. Have the fava bean dip. It will change your life. Couldn’t fault it. And our beautiful, warm and generous waitress took the experience to a whole new level. This is what Five stars are for. The elite players. And Urban Greek is the GOAT.

We ordered the charcoal octopus and mixed grill platter, with a cretan village salad. The food was exceptional!! A huge thank you to our incredible waiter Mark, your outstanding service made our 5 year anniversary extra memorable.

We loved our dinner here! Definitely going for a twist on Greek, don't go expecting super traditional Greek foods, but its utterly delicious. The saganaki cheese was something I'd never tried before, but utterly delicious. Baklava icecream sandwich was also something I'm surprised I haven't seen tried before, was a hit!

I’m glad to have Greek food in tasmania as there are not many or just few. Urban Greek has nice vibe and the foods were delicious (all of them). Staffs were very friendly. I wish we could stay longer as they have only limited hours for dine in. However, we enjoyed our time here and will be back for sure. Cheers!

The Saganaki cheese with the fig jam and lemon, was as good as I have had. The ouzo with ice was bracing. Artemis salad and grilled lamb cutlets was very good. Galaktoboureko for dessert was delightful. The waitress Jaye was excellent and made a good meal even better.

Must Try if in Hobart! So far the best Greek Restaurant we've been to Australia wide! Fantastic service and delicious flavoursome food. Wish we had discovered this place earlier on our journey. We would have happily eaten there every day. Thank you to the staff and well done

Hands down the most amazing meal ive ever had at a restuarant! Perfect atmosphere and the most polite and attentive staff. The meals were so flavorsome, left my partner and myself speachless which is so unlike us! Ate our mixed grill for two in near silence with just a nod of approval between bites. Can't wait to go back!

Dinner here with my parents and partner tonight and it was freaking amazing! The girls were amazing with their table service and the food was phenomenal, we had the Hippocrates banquet and the quality and portions were incredible. Will absolutely recommend and return.

ridiculously good... can't believe how much better it was than expected. juicy, flavoursome meat and bountiful servings of everything in the banquets. will not disappoint (great decor/ space too)

We had the $65 banquet and it was more than enough. All of the courses were divine. The staff were very efficient and friendly. The owner was knowledgeable about the local and Greek wines. Absolutely great.

Saturday night dinner Staff friendly efficient Meals are generous in size and my lamb cutlets melted in my mouth alongside the lemon potatoes and green beans hope to return for a banquet prices reasonable 5 stars

Incredible food & cocktails. We had the 2nd banquet and it was amazing but so much food! Good choice if you’re looking for a special meal. Service was brilliant & the courses came out quickly. Great atmosphere, 100% recommend!

We love Crete and we’re quite excited to find this place. Great ambience, awesome service and the food was delicious but lost a couple of stars from me as the lamb was way too fatty. Trimming the fat off would have made for a perfect experience.

A happening Greek restaurant in the heart of Hobart. We ordered take away, some moussaka, gyros, salad and chicken. For take away food it was very good, very flavoursome. We also had a drink whilst we waited.

My kids and I made the walk on a whim from the waterfront. What a brilliant decision that was! Our waitress was super friendly & gave us some outstanding recommendations. Efficient service, no delays on tempting plates and accommodated us to share all our courses. I only wish you were in Melbourne!! Best restaurant ever with a super cool ambiance and sounds. 3 food comas for the night 😋

Another place I can across when visiting Hobart. Had great Greek food here, thought the lamb was fantastic. Especially liked the desert, which was the deconstructed baklava. Also like the house jam with the saganaki, very tasty!

We walked in as a group of four, with no booking and a busy restaurant and the the staff were more than accommodating, and super friendly! Great service.<br/>Food servings were large and delicious! 2 of us were not able to come close to finishing our meals. Atmosphere is bustling and not quiet, but lovely depending on what you’re hoping for.

So delicious!! Everything was amazing. Staff attentive and happy, decor lovely and the food was perfect. Im gluten intolerant and vegetarian and I ate so well here. My carnivore husband had a great meal as well. Highly recommend.

Walk-in dinner with my daughter last night - love the long waiting tables which we chose to stay at to eat. Service was friendly and helpful. Great decor and atmosphere. Order arrived quite fast considering they were full. The meals were wonderful, probably a bit large for us - my daughter couldn't finish her Cretan chicken. I had the Lamb on red rice from the specials list - incredibly well made dish. The chicken was slightly dry but still very good. I'd have been happy to order a salad if the mains weren't so large but we left very satisfied.

We tried the Hippocrates banquet and it was the most amazing Greek food we’ve ever had. Service was prompt and staff were very friendly. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re in Hobart. Thank you for a fantastic dining experience.

We really enjoyed coming to this place. The staff were friendly and authentic, the decor was modern and trendy, and the food was delicious.<br/><br/>Taking half a point off because the serving size for the price should be bigger at a Greek restaurant. We eat Greek all the time in Melbourne and the serving sizes for the prices are bigger.

Came in for dinner last night and was welcomed in by lovely staff. <br/><br/>Had a slightly different arrangement of Greek food we’re used to, but the food was sensational. Normally when you order saganaki as an entrée, you’re usually served one piece to share between a table of four, and we were serve a slice each! It was delectable, crunchy, hot and salty. Charcoaled octopus melted in your mouth, wasn’t stringy or rubbery. Was perfect, and more amazing to find out that it’s harvested locally through Pirate Bay (which we’ve had a chance of seeing here). <br/><br/>The Cretin Lamb was tender, melt in your mouth, cooked perfectly. Dips were amazing, as were the sorbets for dessert. For once we didn’t get coffee, and had an appetiser of sherry and raki. <br/><br/>Overall, a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Waitstaff were very friendly and talkative, everything we experienced was hands-down wonderful. <br/>

Great atmosphere and very authentic dishes. Our waiter George was great, advising us that he thought the quantity of food we had ordered was too much. His advice was spot on.<br/>It gets very busy and would recommend booking.<br/>In saying that the service was very efficient.

Dined here on our first night in Hobart late August. Booked table online easily, turned up and seated promptly, wine selection awesome! I shared the seafood plate with a friend, and other friend had vegetarian moussaka! He loved it. Then finished off with some ouzaki! Loved this place, the staff were awesome. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!

We had a wonderful evening, the food is superb and delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Waiting staff have a chat and are genuine lovely people. We were visiting Hobart for the first time and what a great find.

Good Greek fare with enough point of difference to make you feel you'd tried something new, friendly staff who quickly found us a table despite our hotel messing up our booking. Location bit of a back water but at least the walk back to the docks allowed us to digest the rich meal somewhat!

Delicious, generous meal served with engaging humour by lovely staff. I was dining solo on a work trip and was treated to lovely banter by the bar staff - just enough to feel welcome without pushing in to intrusive.

With some fanfare and a few positive endorsements our foodie family decided to give Urban Greek a try last night, now, we all like Greek food so we were going to be a captive audience. The menu covers most takes on Greek style cuisine without being overly lengthy and the drinks menu should cater for most. We began with small plates of Charcoal Octopus,Saganaki and Zucchini chips that were all thoroughly enjoyed ( the Mythos beer being a great match for the Octopus) <br/>After a promising start the meals went a little downhill from there, the missus Moussaka was served without accompaniment and juniors Pork Skewers lay on a bed of soggy chips! The rest of our group opted for the various yiros offerings that was served with potatoes ( so much potatoes ) all agreed that even though tasty, the mains were a let down. Four of us decided to share deserts,the Galaktoboureko being the stand out.<br/>Urban Greek is at the upper end on price and on reflection, the great service and decor didn't account for the bill pushing up to $400 for six of us that ate and drank with an unhealthy amount of restraint <br/>( who would of thought potatoes were that expensive ? )<br/> All in all, glad we tried Urban Greek but probably not again.

Went for a Friday lunch with some work colleagues and I am glad we booked as the place was packed. I went for the mixed grill which was huge and terrific value at $32. Colleagues went for the lamb cutlets which they all enjoyed. Looking forward to the next visit already.

We had to try almost every dish because every thing look so fresh and delicious! The best way to enjoy a great meal here is to share as many small dishes and dips as you can handle!! A dip: Fava. Plus: The mix grill, the saganaki, the zucchini croquettes, fetta filo-pastry. A dessert: Galactoboreko. Both thumbs up!

The Galaktobeoureko was the best I have ever had!<br/>I wasn't wowed by all dishes (saganaki with fig jam & the zucchini croquettes were standout) but enjoyed the experience and would go back to try other dishes.

It includes lamb cutlets, lamb skewer, chicken and pork from the spit, pita, dips and fries. The serves are very generous and the grill 'melt in your mouth' delicious.<br/><br/>We rounded off the experience with Greek coffee and Galactoboreko - a semolina based custard slice encased in light filo pastry and drizzled in syrup. Heaven!<br/><br/>This is a dining experience that is memorable for all the right reasons: excellent food, pleasant environment and exceptional service. Having been to numerous Greek restaurants both in Australia and overseas, the Urban Greek stands out - this is what going out for a meal is all about

Relaxing atmosphere surrounded by murals of Greek god & godness (very modern). Highlights for me were the charcoal octopus (so soft & tender) & custard filo pastry (not overly sweet & unique - definitely recommend).<br/><br/>Entree of pita bread & dips was good. I had the meat platter (it was a lot of meat) - a huge meal. It wasn't amazing but very substantial. Hubby had lamb cutlets, unfortunately they were over cooked (tis the reason for - 1/2 point).<br/><br/>Good evening, reasonably priced dishes. It's worth a try.

It was Boozy Friday Lunch Friend's choice. He suggested an unlicensed venue without an espresso machine. I thought he was joking. Then I suggested Urban Greek. Unless I’m thinking of the very sexy Press Club or the more family-orientated, Hellenic Republic in Melbourne, I have pigeon-holed Greek cuisine as meat, chips, cheese and dips.

The team at Urban Greek set out wanting to provide the city of Hobart with a new perspective on Greek cuisine; a combination of quality local produce with time-tested family recipes from Crete.<br/><br/>Not only have they achieved this, but they have opened our eyes to the fact that not all Greek food is the same! Who knew that Crete was the supplier of the worlds finest and lowest acidity olive oil? Who had ever heard of such a strange dessert as mastic gelato? Certainly not us!<br/><br/>Urban Greek provided us with excellent service, a convivial and relaxing atmosphere, and fantastic food with a difference. You don't need an adventurous palate to enjoy this style of food, and for those who care, the serving sizes are truly epic!
