Food was excellent. I did the wine matching and all the wines were great, but they poured every wine as part of the wine matching after the course had arrived. I found it extremely odd. In a couple of instances I was waiting for the wine quite a few minutes after the course arrived.

Food and service was excellent. They were very accommodating of all of my partner’s dietary requirements. A nice cozy spot, all the food was interesting and very tasty. The cauliflower gnocchi was amazing. Definitely worth a visit.

Incredible cuisine that's everything the best of Tasmania. Seasonal, fresh and of world class. The outstanding service is above and beyond exceptional, an incredible team that takes passion and pride in their work and food. A Michelin star should be highly considered. An absolute must.

Service was a bit basic but the food and wine was pretty good. A really nice setting and vibe. Not too crowded or noisy.

Terrible service that turned us off them possibly forever.
We are a group of experienced fine diners looking forward to dining with P&J on our last night in Hobart
Little did we know about the disaster that awaited us.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were met with blank stares from the kitchen staff, none of whom said a word to us or signalled one of the wait staff to come over. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but no one showed up to greet us for a few minutes. Eventually, and only after we moved forward into the dining space did one of the wait staff notice us. But we started the night off feeling like we were uninvited guests. Not ideal.
After being seated, our menus took over 10 minutes to arrive. Our cocktails took about 30 mins to make it to the table, and the wait staff seemed to be confused when told that we wanted a mix of still and sparkling water.
2 hours later, we had only just finished our entrees, with our mains arriving about an hour later. By that time, any delight that was taken in the food was marred by the fact that we had waited so long and we were pretty much over it.
Food wise, the only really outstanding dish was the wallaby tartare. Everything else was basic and served in tiny portions. The lamb was the most underwhelming of all, alongside the cerviche, which wasn’t really cerviche at all, just a tiny slab of seared fish on top a bed of sago with some trimmings on the side.
We also asked ahead how many portions did the sea urchin on toast come in and were told there was two per serving, so imagine our surprise when it arrived and there was only one per plate. After feeding this back to the wait staff, we were told that they had changed the menu recently and were offered an apology.
All in all, the whole experience was terrible, particularly as the meal wasn’t cheap.
I am writing this review in the hopes that future diners will think twice before coming to this restaurant. The kitchen and wait staff clearly don’t communicate with each other, the service was unfriendly and the food is extremely pricey for what it is.
There are so many other establishments in Hobart with much better food that offer value for money and you wouldn’t be bereft if you gave this one a miss.

One of the most popular Masterchef Australia contestants nearly a decade ago and guest chefs since Ben Milbourne lends his talents and curates the menu at Peacock and Jones a lovely cozy restaurant set in the heritage listed Henry Jones IXL Jam Factory.
The blue fin tuna tataki is an explosion of flavour with sweet sour sweet all blending its way to create a masterful balanced dish with hidden gems like crab apple and tapioca or sago.
The main course gnocci which was delicious with layers of cauliflower that rounds the dish. This dish whilst delicious is very rich so some may find it too much. The venison on the other hand was delicious and extremely balanced with some amazing bits of beetroot and other hidden gems.
Dessert of apple and chocolate cremeux was absolutely delicious laced with a cashew nut base with probably one of the best apple sorbets I've had especially made with Granny Smith's.
The service at the restaurant is among some of the best with Anne not just giving us extremely good service but also gave us a quick history of the magnificent building the restaurant was in. With pricing reasonable for the upmarket nature of the restaurant, two people can have a feed for under $200 for one entree, two mains, a side, two drinks and sparkling water. Overall this restaurant is fantastic and excellent value for money.
The restaurant has a completely different menu for vegetarians and has some halal meat options with the venison being halal on the night of our visit. It is best to check with them as the suppliers are subject to change.

Came here for my friends birthday. Had read great reviews....should have read deeper. I'll start by saying the staff were really friendly, no issues there. But lets get in to the real stuff. We started by ordering two cocktails (martinis, it literally has 2 ingredients), it took 15-20 minutes to arrive. We had booked the degustation with matched wines. The wine pours were larger than a standard glass and so we couldnt finish them before next course arrived - even told them to cut down on the pour sizes. The wine selection also was disappointing, not enjoyable for the most part. The food - average at best. Cube of dried brioche to start, fig tart to follow which was sweet was more of a dessert of anything. The fish was overpowering, i had 3 large scales that ended up in my mouth and the rest of ingredients on the plate didnt work together. Venison dish was way overcooked, was dry/leathery. The lamb was fine, but thats it, just fine. Dessert, we gave up. Waiter was lovely, he asked how our dishes were each time and I was honest with feedback. Sounds as if they had an amazing menu and chef years ago, sorry to hear the quality and experiences have taken such a dive.

Absolutely lives up to the hype and worth every cent. Ordered the Wallaby Tartare ($27), Dry Aged Pork Chop ($42), Venison ($42) and Cremeaux ($17). As someone who hates game meat, the tartare was a pleasant surprise, and I couldn't stop eating it. The meat was flavorful, creamy and delicious. However, my favourite has to be the dry aged pork - hands down the best pork I've tasted. The Cremeaux was also a great way to end the meal. if you're visiting Hobart, this is a must try, would absolutely fly here to eat at Peacock and Jones again!

Visiting Hobart for the first time, we really wanted to experience somewhere that showcased local produce. Each meal I had was perfection on a plate, I can't recommend Peacock and Jones highly enough. An absolute must when visiting Hobart!

Incredible levels of customer satisfaction, great vibe, Emma is an incredible host, food is sublime local, fresh, reasonably priced and I love how kitchen is open and menu ranges from small bites to mains - perfect for dinner or just snack with wine - wine list incredible and LOVED the black rice crisps with smoky babagannoush and the cured trout - also best chips I've ever had - fries with generous coatings of chilli, parmesan and salt - to die for! Location is magic, understated elegance, steeped in history

We booked this restaurant from Sydney based on reviews in Delicious & word of mouth.
We were quite underwhelmed by our experience.
The waitress was cold & standoffish & it was a while before we ordered our drinks - only to be told we had to walk across an enclosed courtyard to get a cocktail that had to be collected by us.
The chicken liver parfait was superb; but we struggled to choose a main meal & the selection of desserts left us bewildered.
3 out of 4 desserts were cheese based & the 4th was a bread & butter pudding.
2 people at our table do not eat cheese; & being a cheese specialist & being told that the dessert incorporating "Vacherin" was not a cheese dessert beggars belief.
I am afraid we would not recommend your restaurant or make a return visit next we are in Tassie.
Elisabeth Bailey
Warm, romantic atmosphere with knowledgeable tentative staff. Jeff and his team in the kitchen know how to showcase tassies finest produce. Let Emma and her staff show you why Peacock & Jones is our favourite place to dine in Tassie.

It was a surprisingly good meal experience. We had quick service and friendly staff. Mains being the Fish of the Day and the steak were very nice, around $38 each. We had a side salad which was tasty. The desserts being broule and a very good chocolate pudding, were well worth it, $15 each. We had beers and a couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc with the meals, only unusual thing was the tea/ coffees came before the desserts! Unusual. The atmosphere being in a former docks building was very rustic.

Food was amazing quality and presented superbly. Service was a little slow, had to try get attention to order drinks. Not all staff knowledgeable about menu or about where our service was up to. Nice atmosphere albeit a bit chilly. Would return for the food though

Slightly mixed experience at Peacock & Jones. The space itself is really warm and contemporary, open kitchen is lovely too. We enjoyed the food (especially the beef which was fantastic) however we found the service less than optimal. We had to waive down a waiter for everything we needed (to order wine, to order mains and to order dessert). Normally this wouldn't be too much of an issue however this is not a cheap restaurant so we expected a little more in the area of service.
James Doyle
Fantastic food and a wonderful dining experience, the staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food is exceptional!
Brian Marks
Service was very good.
Entree was great. We loved the beef tartare and the chicken liver parfait.
Fish of the day was very tasty but the butchers cut although cooked great was very fatty and lots of sinew. Shame as spoilt the evening. Cook needs to quality check his meat before cooking.
Maria Akamotakis
Everything was spot on - staff, ambience, warmth. We had the butchers cut which was a 400gram rib eye, the market fish, a side of Brussels & finished with the bread and butter pudding and coffee. Every mouthful delicious!
Will definitely be back!

Loved that you could be as casual or formal as you liked (I had been advised on a previous visit that if I took one of the stools I couldn't order from the main menu - thankfully that wasn't the case this time). I perched and read one of the history books in between exquisite courses of blue eye and mille fuille. The service I got was warm and engaging although I didn't observe that from all the crew at other tables. Moderately high prices, but delicious food, interesting menu and a great venue.
Mark Hayes
We picked this place because it featured locally sourced ingredients. I had
nduja | roast pumpkin | buffalo curd | basil | pine nuts | grilled sourdough
berkshire pork | mustard fruits | boudin noir | soubise
brillat savarin mousse | pear | rye crumb | walnuts
All in all, it was pretty good. The desert, however, was extraordinary!

Best little find on our recent trip to Hobart. So good we went back a second night! An interesting menu cooked to perfection by an outstanding young chef. A beautiful space with excellent service. Has great wine selection too.
Mary Young
Fair. 6pm. Too casual for a sophisticated wine bar. Staff falling over themselves to fill water glasses but had to gesture to them for wine and food order. Not keen on uniform and jangling keys on belts. Will try again for a wine before I dine.
Tr AV
Service and food exceptional, atmosphere was devine.
Highly and I empathise highly recommend for anyone wanting a uniquely special evening

Had an awesome bday dinner at Peacock and Jones. Couldn't fault the meals or the service. We each had a meal and drink and got one of each of the sides to share with the table. The tables are also a nice distance apart, so that you can enjoy a conversation comfortably without being too close to the next people. Reasonable pricing and fast service. Lovely venue. Will be back for special occasions. Great for people visiting hobart too, as Tassie produce :)
Kim Strachan
Very good vegetarian menu, however the pork I enjoyed could have been cooked a little longer next time!
Jdnosewine
Great old world atmosphere. Not a large but very good quality menu. The next table somehow knew there was an additional vegetarian menu. Would have been good to know. Excellent choice of Tasmanian and other wines. We especially loved the fish of the day and chicken liver pate. Recommend for a special night out.

What an amazing place. I am not sure what all the negative reviews about service are all about. Staff were fantastic. The moment you walked in the door all the way to the final dish was fabulous. The king fish starter followed by the sirloin steak were just beyond words. The steak was tender and had a lovely smoky flavour. A truly lovely evening and meal in beautiful Hobart.

Where can I begin with this place???? It was hands down AMAZINGGGGG!!!!!! My friends and I came down to visit Hobart last weekend and we wanted to try this place on our first night and did a walk in when they just opened, however they were booked out and now I can understand why!

We didn’t want to give up on this place so we attempted to make a booking on our last night in Hobart. When we called up whilst sitting in the car parked right outside the restaurant, they said they only had bar stools available and we accepted anyway. Upon walking in, they managed to put us on a table at the back of the restaurant.

At first glance, the atmosphere was just gorgeous, the fireplace was beautiful and lighting was dim.

We ordered 4 entrees and the highlights for me were the kingfish ceviche and chicken liver parfait. These dishes was quality made and I wanted more! My main dish was the duck and by now I didn’t think I could have been even more impressed but boy I was wrong. Hands down the best duck dish, I have ever ate or will eat, maybe. The dish came with a yoghurt type of sauce on the side with thinly sliced persimmons, which would at first sound odd but it worked perfectly well.

Service was tentative and great, waiter checked up on us with every course and asked how it was. I was so happy we did not give up on this place. It was a 10/10 for me and I would fly back to Hobart just to eat here again.

What a cosy little restraunt right by the pier. With the seating within an area with a fire and a multiple heaters it was so fab. We enjoyed the duck and pork mains coupled with impeccable service and great Tassie wines it was a fab night. Highly recommend.
2.5 stars ⭐️

I don’t know whether it is Tasmania in general or what but the food comes out ssssssoooooo slowwwwwlyyyyyyy. Thank goodness I always look at the menu beforehand and quickly order food for kids as soon as I sit down, because my dining companion who ordered their kids meal with theirs waited for more than 40 mins before the kids meal arrived, and had to survive (😶) with more free bread and scabbing my kid’s mains.

I had the kingfish starter which wasn’t very fresh. My friend ordered a chicken and scallops starter and she found it small and not very good either. My kids got tomato salad starter and that wasn’t flavoursome... and I guess because I had a tomato salad as well at Templo for lunch and theirs were just out of this world, this seriously pales in comparison. The steak tartare has too much going on, tabasco, pickles, mustard... it was a bit of an overkill. The wallaby was highly recommended by the waitress but that was too dry 😞

My duck was good & the lamb dish I ordered for my kids were amazing. So I would definitely highly recommend going there and just getting the lamb.
Bridget
Beautiful restaurant. Loved the ambience, the friendly service and the high quality yet not overly pretentious meals. My main was cooked to perfection and my desert was delicious. Highly recommend this wonderful experience.

Wonderful dinner!
Starter was the Lonzo charcuterie. Beautiful cured pork and the sour dough bread was great, large irregular holes, nice thick crust with soft chewy middle. Mains -Roasted duck on charcoal. Medium rare which was just right. Full of flavour. Three Rivers Lamb was probably the best I had ever had. Great charred flavour not over powering. Cooked medium rare again was just right. Accomplishment with farro was also great.!
Service was very nice. Only thing strange to me was when I ordered my beers and ask for it to be in a glass, they would only bring out the beer already poured in the glass. I would have thought they would bring beer and glass out and pour in in front of you.??
Good Food Good Mood
We had an event at the hotel last night which was housed in the foyer area and catered by the restaurant. We had some seriously amazing food with the cured ocean trout entree being a standout but the house made goats cheese spread over some sourdough was also spectacular.

For main I had 24 hour braised lamb shoulder, frankly I found it very salty. I enjoyed the accompanying potato and mint. For dessert there were three tarts all with a perfectly crisp and crumbly shell, a delicious lemon one, a tasty chocolate one and an underwhelming cheesecake one. Overall a very pleasant evening
Gee
3.5
Good food but far too slow on the service. It’s a pity, because this place has a lot of potential. It was a Wednesday night and they weren’t particularly busy. The burrata was amazing and served with pickled beetroot - a good start to the evening! Chicken liver parfait was also very solid with delicious brioche. The lamb ribs were also very tasty with some goats cheese on the side. The octopus was a little chewy and the sauce is came with was bland and rather lacklustre. The asparagus were fine but the lardo did nothing to add to the dish. Market fish was beautiful. Overall we enjoyed the meal but we had to wait far too long between dishes. We were all sharing. Bottomless sparkling water is always good too.
Andie
Ambience—I love the rustic theme!
Staff—very friendly and accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu hence they can give ideas and recommendations based on your preference.
Price—reasonable for fine dining experience
Food—superb!

Great spot on the water -service staff super friendly and helpful in the pizza 🍕 selection. Guy playing the guitar in the background was a winner. Worth a visit

Visited Peacock and Jones as part of a weekend away in my home town with the missus, After checking in at the new Macq01 and a short stroll across the road we settled in to what turned out to be a great dining experience at P & J
We started with Champagne whilst we perused a smallish menu then opted for the Calamari for me and Nduja for the missus, I said at the time the Calamari was the second best I had had and in reflection that still stands true. The Calamari (entree size ) was chosen by the missus for main whereas I felt the need for some red meat and ordered the Cape Grim Sirloin (medium rare)again both meals were delicious. We matched our meals with some very nice Tassie wines
All in all a very good night out aided by knowledgeable and friendly wait staff and quite reasonable prices, will return

We loved it last night. Good to see people work professionally behind and front of desk too. Highly recommended for everyone and don't ignore dessert. It's worth it!

Peacock and Jones were a last minute choice on our trip to Hobart - but definitely one of our most enjoyable meals! They catered easily to vegetarians, had a great selection of wines and really friendly, knowledgable staff! Definitely worth a visit. (Try the Sunchoke!)

Fabulous food and exceptional hospitality. Don't skip any courses. A must try when in Hobart. We were there last night and had such a difficult time choosing from the well composed menu that we are going back tonight to try the things we didn't have last night. Every dish we ordered was well balanced. Simple ingredients paired with some more unusual ones to create mouthwatering dishes.

Lovely service and food! Pork neck was tasty. A side of green beans was needed and they were good. The fries were a taste sensation. Bread and Butter was highly nomable. I would return here again for a special occasion.
Just Feed Me
We ordered a variety of entrees; beef tartare, chicken liver pate, calamari, charcuterie and sweetbreads. Beef tartare was very nice, not sure why French fries were offered as a side for it though - it just doesn't go well together. Chicken liver pate was excellent. Calamari was a miss; batter was soggy and wasnt very nice. Charcuterie was a miss too; the meats didn't have any flavour to them and bread was too dense - only good thing on there were the pickles. Sweetbreads was the best of all entrees - perfectly cooked and well balanced dish. After that feast, we had the pork neck, and brusell sprouts sides. The pork was fork-tender and full of flavour. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this place

One of the best little spots we found in Hobart. Beautifully cooked meat dishes and cosy, ambient location in the old mills along the water front.

Got a recomendation from a friend for ou@ visit to hobart. It's a good restaurant, nice ambience, wine not so great. Overall average. Food was good but not amazing.

Cool dining areas with view into the kitchen. Nice cozy seating area with fireplace in the indoor courtyard. Pleasant dinning experience. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Would definitely recommend:
Set menu $48
•Risotto, green peas, lightly smoked haddock, prawns, baby spinach
•Rocket pinenut parmesan salad
•Mango semifreddo, lime curd, coconut meringue (lovely and refreshing)
Lovely fresh food and full of flavour. Both dishes were delicious!

The following dishes were also enjoyed:
• Scallop pudding
•Duck with Boudin Noir - very nice
19/1/17

Can not fault this restaurant. Food was outstanding. Drinks list is equally as impressive. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and unpretentious. Any place that has a waitress serving in blunnies gets a tick in my book!
Shavee De Silva
We went there for dessert after dinner at the drunken admiral. The earl grey ice cream and the chocolate date pudding was exquisite. The meals smelt amazing. Bookings are a must due to the small restaurant. Will definitely visit again.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food put out here having been disappointed for most of the visit to Hobart.

Had dinner here and decided to have a selection of small entrees rather than the classic 3 course meal having conferred with the very pleasant and helpful waiter.

The wagyu tartare was prepared well, had the traditional creamy texture from the yolk but the addition of the peppery crisp gave it that extra dimension.
The highlight of the meal was the salt ling fritters with anchovy emulsion and radicchio had that intrigue of the bitter, creamy, salty and fish taste rolled into one.
The least favourite was the chicken parfait which was creamy and smooth but the toasted brioche bread was too sweet and threw the whole balance of the meal.

Overall though a very enjoyable meal and highly recommended to anyone visiting Hobart when compared to some of the more highly rated establishments which aren't that great from experience so far

There is something to be said for elegant, intimate dining. Whether it’s a romantic dinner or a business lunch, Peacock and Jones is classy and discreet. The restaurant is in the heart of the tourist precinct – the Rocks of Hobart, at the eastern end of the IXL complex. It is the latest restaurant from the Federal Group.
Fork And Foot (formerly Two Clowns Tripping)
We spent a lovely afternoon down at Peacock and Jones recently. We've found the Federal Group stable of restaurants to be hit and miss in the past, but in P&J they have a winner!

The ambiance is very laid back, with the choice to have your meal either indoors or, as we did, in the atrium out the...

Imitate & cosy - a perfect place for that special date or imitate catch up with friends, a place that makes you feel so welcomed & relaxed.

Share plates are on the menu (I must admit I am now over the tapas share style menus - I just want to eat a decent portion of food! 😤). I was more than happy to skip the share style & go straight for the main meals but being with a foodie, we ordered a range of tapas plates as well as main & dessert.

Highlights for me in the tapas range was the market fish, which was salmon, served with salmon belly & Tasmanian avocado. Wow, so creamy & melt in your mouth.

The true highlights for me was the main market fish, which was blue eye. Wow!!!!! This was so good, crispy skin, beautiful potatoes. I want another reason to come here to have this & the dessert of ginger brulee. Perfection.

The eclaire was a let down of all the dishes, it was too cripsy like toasted bread.

Service was excellent - staff are very knowledgeable of the food on the menu & attentive (with appropriate space).

I have a wonderful evening! I will definitely go back.

Nb - there is a courtyard, probably where large groups would be seated. It doesn't invoke that ambience of intimacy but still nice.
