Review Fondru’s Fromagerie & Wine Bar - Hobart

Neal
I have been driving past Fondru's on the way home in West Hobart for a while now. Each time I drive past I think "I will have to stop in there to check it out sometime". Well, I drove past on Saturday afternoon and this time I did stop. I am glad that I did. I settled in to the impressive surrounds, with its rustic charm and enjoyed a nice glass of Tasmanian Pinor Noir with some simple baguette. The fair was simple but the enjoyment of it was lovely. The staff were more than friendly and welcoming. I noted their specialty fondu and we had a conversation about how big fondu parties were back in the 70's & 80's. I will be going back to try their classic fondu. If your going past do what I did, go in and check it out.

A trendy and busy little bistro with a small but interesting menu. The staff were attentive and friendly. We ordered the chef's choice option, $55 pp without dessert. The wallaby wings were tasty and unusual. The food was appetising, but there was just not enough of it to leave two people feeling satisfied. Might be good for an appetiser before going out for dinner. The wine list was small and expensive, $72 a bottle for a pinot noir that I bought for $48, at another Hobart bar, last night is a bit steep.

Nice intimate little bistro food was very good and a good selection of wines to accompany the meal. Service was very good and responded well with the timing of the courses. Interesting combination of food that responded to seasonal produce.

Nice bright and airy yet cosy atmosphere. Good selection of wine both by the glass and by the bottle.

This place is so good. So many cheeses, prepared in many delicious ways. We had the Tasmanian Cheese board and a traditional fondue, recommend both. The cheese flights looked great and they have charcuterie boards too. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Great selection of wines, plus beer and whisky too.

Came in off the street with no booking. The owner ( didn't catch her name. She was blonde. But in saying that all the staff are blonde) greeted us on arrival with a big cheesy smile and welcomed us with the warm hospitality Hobart is known for. Ordered a few small plates. The stand out was the quail and the pumpkin. Absolute gold and I liked that plates clean. I'm a boring beer drinker but my pals got fancy cocktails and loved them.

Chance discovery.
Stopped by for late afternoon drinks and were impressed by the quality of offerings. So much so that we returned later that night for a meal and serious drink.
Despite Frondru's being in a very small premises, the atmosphere is quite OK and the fit-out internally is very smart.
We chose two recommended dishes and were aptly pleased. The Porcini Mushroom Fondu was suitably decadent and the Steak Onglet (Rare, thank you) was succulent and superbly seasoned. The Pomme Frites were not as you would expect! Whole baby potatoes, cooked then deep fried. Couldn't eat enough of them.
A very smart wine list with some excellent offerings by the glass or bottle.
We'll be back for the cheeses.

Quick visit from Melbourne and happy we found this little wine bar. The cheese board with the soft cheese was AMAZING! Also loved the corn with chipotle. Great service too!

Fantastic welcome to Hobart! Arrived Friday afternoon, dropped our bags off at our accomodation and walked up the road to be greeted by a sign offering cheese and wine...what more does anyone need?
Lovely interior and a warm and welcoming owner who was knowledgeable about what he was offering...we could have stayed all day and we almost did!
The cocktails here are fantastic and the fondue is to die for (make sure you add the bacon bits when you order)
Will definitely be back when I’m next in Hobart!
