My score 3.5 stars (avge of many visits). J and I had lunch here on Mon 16th Mar and it was basically empty. Service very good and helpful.
We shared:Whiting fillets w red mayo ($7.80 entrée) – Delicate and clean battered fillets with a nice cabbage salad base. Red mayo was nice but pretty sweet.
Veg and tofu with rice ($10.80 lunch serve) – Nice garlicky gravy, lightly cooked al dente veg and soft tofu puffs. Large rice, but not a huge serve of veg or tofu.
Assam prawns with rice ($13.80 lunch serve) – Nice sized prawns, red onion, tomato, a little pineapple, green beans and okra. Plenty of sour sauce with a touch of chilli heat (I would have liked even hotter, but J thought it was about right).
Oct 2018. Vego Laksa - Is always good, more eggplant than Laksa King next door (and its cheaper), however LK's has a better, spicier broth and more Tofu.
Spicy Chilli Crispy duck on rice - It was crispy and spicy, but also VERY sweet - no mention of that in the description! Plenty of rice, 3 bits of broccoli and generous boneless duck - it was ok, but wouldn't have again because of the sweetness.
Other visits - Free tea is nice, place always seems noisy whether busy or not. Nasi Lemak w chicken - Is less generous than LK, but bigger than MY Tofu's (around corner) - one of my fav bits of Nasi L is the Sambal anchovies, but CL's are the "fishiest" and least crispy I've ever had, so not to my taste.
Fried KT - Smaller than LK's, but nicer, spicier and less oily.
Great Customer Service. Hectic laksa
Heard so much about this place from friends and finally went last Sunday! I usually have high standards on Malaysian food / Asian food and happy to report that Chef Lagenda meets all my standards! I had the fish fillet soup noodles and A had the wok fried flat noodles in egg gravy (?!?) i.e. Wa Tan Hor 😂. Portions are HUGE (and by huge I mean HUGE) A is a big eater but even then he acknowledged that the serving size is bigger than your usual Asian restaurants.
🍰 Fish Fillet Noodle Soup was everything you’d expect it to be - salty, creamy, full of umami from the fish broth and they were generous in the fish fillets!
🍰 Flat Noodles in Egg Gravy was so good too. The fried noodles had the wok flavour that it a telltale sign that it’s a good one.
And what’s SpaceforCakes if she doesn’t have a room for dessert? We shared a sago pudding and omg guys. It’s SO DAMN GOOD.
If you’re thinking whether or not to get it, GET IT.
Definitely will be back again!
PS: friends highly recommend their curry laksa too!
Space for Cakes Rating : 4.5/5 🍰
Great food served quick. Prompt and friendly service. Didn't expect much, but ended up meeting my noodle cravings to a tee.
I came here recently for first time and GLAD I did!
Moments earlier I was at the next door eatery being forced to sit 'squashed' between strangers with no room to breathe. I didn't order, left and walked next door to this place.
I noticed the difference here instantly. A smaller place but quieter with pleasant background music...yet more space!
I was treated with respect by a waitress straight away. Friendly. Attentive. I was shown a table next to the outdoor roller door where staff occasionally walk in and out. Slightly annoying, but I happily put up with it compared to next door's bad experience.
I ordered the food and drink. Seafood soup was AMAZING in taste. These people know how to combine seafood items in their soup to achieve a tasty balance. The strawberry green tea turned out to be a delicious unique drink. Waitress passing by saw my drink had more green tea, very helpful to instruct me to mix it with thick straw to get the full taste.
My meal and drink was Delicious. Affordable pricing.
Comfortable eating experience with space to breathe, calm with no feeling of being 'rushed' to finish meal as is the production line 'squashy' eatery next door!
YES. Hooray.. I'm happily sticking to this place. I'll be back.
The combination hor fun and hainanese chicken rice is a favourite when i visit. Love the friendly staff and the food is amazing. The hor fun has an amazing charred flavours and it quite authentic
The Laksa’s here are just as good if not better than laksa king.
I found that any other item of food I’ve ordered off the rest of the menu is better thanks laksa king too. Not as busy either and very good service.
Had the mixed curry laksa, soup was full flavoured with good levels of spice. Good mix of seafood and chicken in the noodles, prices are very affordable and worth a visit
A friend and I came here last night, I had been here many moons ago but am happy that I decided to come back.
A great menu with good service, although I did find it slightly bizarre that they gave us the bill at the start when we just finished ordering.
We ordered the pork dumplings to start with that were really delicious and there were soooo many, they were also really big! The salt and pepper squid was really tender and tasty along with the Chinese broccoli. The stand out for me was the beef rendang. I have finally found a place in Melbourne that serves up a flavoursome rendang and the beef was so tender.
Great portions on the food here, really good value for money.
Dare I say it - this place upstages its brilliant competitor next door Laksa King, though the difference between these two is marginal. Their serving sizes are bigger with the same great taste and authenticity. Laksa king might shade this place slightly for their laksa (surprise surprise) but Chef Lagenda has it over them for their rice dishes, in particular their signature Nasi Lemak. A great example of competition benefiting the customer! Unbelievably good food and it doesn’t look like changing anytime soon!
Good, spacious place to dine in with great selection of food choices. Always seem crowded all the time even during weekday.
We tried this restaurant many times before and most of the times, the experiences are quite good. We also tried their brand in Deer Park too. Their mee goreng is definitely different at 2 places but still ok.
Service was pretty good too.
Set in an ideal location and close to public transport, Chef Lagenda is the place to go, offering a broad range of deliciously made Malaysian dishes, great ambience and excellent service provided by the Female waiting Staff.
A very busy restaurant and great foods 👍🏻
When Malaysian food is what you want than Chef Lagenda is where you wanna go!
Visited over the weekend and was SO pleased by the food.
We tried the traditional curry laksa & meal deal with Roasted Duck and BBQ Pork with chicken soup & egg noodles.
Can't wait to return soon for more dishes!
Very authentic Malaysian food. Laksa is as good as laksa king next door. The three colour drink is not as good as from viet restaurants. Keen to come back and try other dishes.
Usually viewed as the alternative to Laksa King if the latter is full, Chef Lagenda holds its own ground in the flavour department with similar and unique menu items from the Malaysian kitchen. Some dishes tend to be a bit hit and miss though, like the samba seafood dish that looked the part but had zero saltiness to it.
