Review Don’t Tell Aunty - Sydney

I love this place. First time going there with my friends and we truly love it. The food, the vibes & the pictures on the hall was amazing. We did the tasting menu $70 per person option, because we wanted to try all the food. And lord it was amazing. The customer service was amazing. Everything about this place was amazing. Definitely recommend this place.

Delicious food and drinks. Fun colourful decor. Friendly staff. We had the tasting menu and everything was so tasty. Portions were huge and we were so full. It was my birthday and they made it special and played a birthday song at the end too. Great place to catch up with friends with the fun vibe. Would recommend !

So happy with my experience here! Had high expectations coming here and they were definitely fulfilled! A bit on the pricier side ($30 per curry) and the serving sizes look small, but they definitely left you full and satisfied, and that garlic naan bread is an absolute must! The service is nice and friendly, and the interior is absolutely gorgeous! Definitely recommend!

Great fitout & had a nice lovely vibe to it. The set menu was a great way to try all the dishes & couldn’t finish the main however it was tasty & loved both the balls in the set menu. Tried their version of the margarita. I wasn’t really a fan of it, as it was a thick & highly spiced drink. Service was a bit hit & miss

Visited on a Tuesday night and it was completely packed (if you plan on visiting, I suggest you making a reservation). I have to say that this is one of the best butter chickens I have ever had. It was definitely the highlight of our meal, hence the 5/5. We also got a lamb curry and naan platter. The platter was a good option as we got to try 3 different flavors: garlic, plain, and sesame. The lamb curry was average. This place is $$ (30$ per curry) so maybe come with friends if you want to try more options.

Went for drinks and light meal with friends. We've heard so much about this place and it clearly didn't disappoint. The cocktails were amazing, the food especially the Pani Puri and Lamb were so good. Pretty interior to chill out with friends. Definitely recommend this place for a good modern Indian food and unique drinks

This is no doubt one of the coolest Indian restaurants in Sydney. Visited on a Tuesday night and it was like a weekend at any other place, so make a reservation- it’s very easy through GMaps. The food is definitely something you have to experience - go with an empty stomach and ready to eat as much as your budget allows. Cocktails are also interesting. And if you’re looking for an interesting dessert try the Kulfi Ice Cream (not pictured)

We were looking for a place to satisfy our craving for authentic Indian cuisine for the last 4 years in Melbourne but couldn’t find any. This place in Sydney is the closest it can get. Amazing food with perfect flavours and great vibes! We enjoyed our night here and definitely coming back next time in Sydney.

Really enjoyed the papadi chaat and coconut prawn curry. None of the food was spicy though which was a shame. The palak paneer was not super flavoursome. The restaurant has a fun vibe though, with nice coloured lighting and music. Fun place to go with friends

This place is a total disappointment...they wont take any modifications into consideration...we just asked them to make food little spicy and we were being told off by the waitstaff that “you will get what is prepared, we dont do changes”
Food served was cold...bad experience

They can make you special indian chai (tea) even though it's not there on the menu.

I expected to really like this place, was super disappointed. Really cool interior and atmosphere was fun. But the food was all super heavy handed and overly sweet for our table. I did really like the cauliflower, but the coconut fish curry was just ok and the tandoori chicken was not as flavourful as I expected. The papadi chaat was really sweet - which I have noticed before with this dish but this was too much for me. Struggled to eat it. Service was ok- language barrier was an issue which is fine, but just a Little underwhelming overall. Won’t be going back.

I used to love Indian food and it’s the most innovative Indian cuisine I’ve ever tried. Me and my friend ordered the tasting menu, so we didn’t even know what dishes would come up because they’re all chef picked/ seasonal. N the main also gave us a chance to taste all the curry that they have. Dessert was a very interesting ice cream stick. Overall, me and my friend love it very much, all their dishes surprised us, but their potion was a bit too big n they restricted that everyone on the same table need to order tasting menu. So we can share it and order something else. Overall, we paid about $75 per head with a glass of red.

Located at Surry hills... it’s a good place for indo-Asian food... they have a variety of drinks here too...

If you are looking for a full course meal then you should try the chefs tasting menu
In that you get a thali full of curries and naan and rice and sweets....

We ordered a beetroot paneer tikka and a samosa chaat in appetisers...
The tikka was tasty...
the chaat could’ve been better....
We also ordered 3 thalis
2 veg and 1 non veg

Food was delicious and very filling.
The presentation was very nice.

However the service was very slow....
We had to wait too long before we were served our drinks as well as our food...

Food- 4/5
Quality- 5/5
Quantity- 4/5
Cost- 3/5
Ambience- 4/5
Service- 2/5

So, we couldn’t get into SÁNG, as I didn’t know how tiny it is. I thought the shop (or restaurant?) on the corner was part of it, so was surprised, trying to get into this modern Korean restaurant, that there was so little seating. But it was Mother’s Day, after all, and I had planned badly. Instead, I backtracked, with my two visitors from Canada, and we decided to try the amusingly named Don’t Tell Aunty, modern Indian food that took over Colin Fassndge’s 4Fourteen.

Stunning Curry, Judy like the Indian Mauritian curry I’m used to, casual relaxed vibe and great staff, a must fir anyone wanting to savour Surry Hills and enjoy great food and a friendly atmosphere

This place in Surrey hills serves both excellent food and variety drinks. However we were just there to eat and really enjoyed the food. Thus making it my first review in Sydney.
Excellent service, very well done Indian ambience, good food. Enjoyed their hospitality.
Must try samosa chat and Malai kofta.
Other dishes we tried were tandoori fish, beetroot paneer, ghosht curry with Indian breads that were excellently cooked too.

Very late review. Went for a $10 buffet lunch with colleagues. I am not sure if the offer is valid anymore. Absolutely loved the ambience and the food. Good assortment of Indian dishes that tastes amazing. Highly recommended.

Food was really good -the papadi chat was fresh and the curries delicious. Loved the blue cheese naan. The only thing that let this place down is the service. There is such a thing as too attentive and it felt like we were being pushed through. As soon as we were done eating they cleaned our table as we sat there. As soon as they cleaned they asked if we wanted the bill. It runs the experience a little

The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere but I thought the food was below average. The naan pizza was sickeningly sweet, both curries we ordered were very plain, came out cold - lacked vegetables and had no spice at all.

Had the banquet, scrumptious selection of curries, a generous serve of about 8 or so for the main. Loved the ice cream tubes for desert as well. Yummy

The flavours here couldn't be more North Indian. I know it is called don't tell aunty and unauthentic but the lunch menu is amazingly authentic.
I have been here a few times now and every time the food has been very consistent in flavours. Great place to take friends and family on a budget night out.

We went there with bunch of office mates during lunch to try out $10 meal. It was a buffet lunch, take as much as you can, on your large plate. Food was delicious and good variety. Ambience is very inviting. Would definitely recommend.

The menu is short and simple but the food is literally finger licking good. Must try and is one of the best Indian cuisine that you can find in and around Sydney
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
(3.5 stars)
You’ll barely recognise the former 4Fourteen, now decked out in riotous colour. Don’t Tell Aunty is painted pink and furnished with rolling, royal blue velour banquettes and copper basket chairs. There are green leafy plants that match the original forest green kitchen tiles; electric blue under-bar lighting, and gleaming stacks of copper pots arranged along the kitchen counter. When you throw in all the colours generated by large photo murals of Indian aunties, dueling Indian flicks playing on opposing walls, plus a noisy crowd, the space is a cacophony of colour, sound and motion. The plentiful floor team is young, happy and eager to please – possibly too eager, but it’s still early days. My missing dining companion, half an hour late, is a cause for consternation because they want to get my table underway. By contrast, owner and chef Jessi Singh, clad in a baseball cap and apron, oozes confidence during his constant forays onto the floor. “A little gift for you from the kitchen, but the whole thing has...

Growing up in a heavily Indian populated neighborhood, I’m no stranger to Indian food. And I’m talking tiny little joint, with barely any decor, but ridiculously good food sorta Indian food. But for the uninitiated or something a little more hipster, I’d recommend Don’t Tell Aunty.

Came here with a group of friends, the self serve bar for beer and wine creates a fun and unique experience. The food was very colourful and flavoursome. If going with a group would recommend the starter of sauces. The butter dish was the nicest.

Bye Bye 4fourteen, Hello Don't Tell Aunty looking very colourful with the ultramarine seating. The $10 Lunch Buffet advertised on the outside chalkboard was the first attraction for me. Keep in mind it's not exactly a 'buffet' as in all-you-can-eat for $10 but you can put as much on your large plate as you're willing to eat without wastage. If you need more then it's an extra $10 I believe. I managed to get a bit of all 7 curries on offer with a good amount of rice in the middle of my plate and some of the sides, relishes and raita. My tip would be to make sure you put enough rice to start. There's nothing worse than running out of rice for your curries on the plate. Pappadums were included but could benefit from being more crisp. I suspect they might have been prepared too far in advance and have lost some of their lovely texture as well as those colourful fun cheezel looking tubes. But for $10 it's great value for the variety and flavour and a great concept for the lunchtime locals as a cheap eat. Make sure you get some of that red lime pickles you see in the middle of my plate for some extra flavour kick and chilli heat. Service was friendly and welcoming. Decor pretty cool with lots of natural light and colourful surrounds. There's also a self service wine bottle fridge. So if in need of another bottle of wine. Just go up and get one for your table. It's like a liquor shop with dining tables hehe. I spy wine prices range from $48 to $190 per bottle.

We went here after hearing good things about the Melbourne branch, and we were very happy with the food. It was flavoursome, innovative, and I especially loved the decor of the restaurant. There was old-school Bollywood music playing, rendering a nostalgic, retro ambience. More than anything, the service was excellent. Our server was friendly, bubbly, and really easy to get along with. She made our experience particularly enjoyable, and I cannot speak highly enough of her. I hope this standard is able to be maintained into the future!
