A large and very popular pub with lots of different spaces to eat in. Polite, informative and hard working staff. We had the steak which was cooked to perfection and the gyros with Greek flavoured lamb and warm soft pita. Delicious!
Definitely recommend The Toxteth for any meal including family kids meals. My only negative is that dogs are allowed in all the spaces, even the carpeted room, hence 4 stars instead of 5.

Food is quite basic, but expensive đ no lunch specials at all.
Beers also expensive at $8 a schooner for vb and northern.
Note to management- half your meal size and knock $10 off the price, noone wants 2 x pieces of schnitzel for lunch.

Exy food for what it is however the boys loved their burgers, the haloumi fries were delicious & the salt n pepper squid exceptional. A good spot for people watching for a long and lazy lunch.

Pricey but tasty pub meals.
Great atmosphere, usually clean and good ambiance.
Staff are a bit varied. Sometimes super friendly and attentive, sometimes off in the corner having extended chats and
Ignoring customers.

A great local pub with a varied selection of food and drinks in a pleasant atmosphere.
Enjoyed the (un-publike) Ramen Bowl with Chicken. Maybe the Chicken Schnitzel next time :-)

Great quality food. They used to have better vegan options. The quality of the bowls has reduced since all the lockdowns and continue to be the only thing that can be turned vegan. Would love to see a vegan burger or something on the menu, just because itâs 2022. Nice atmosphere.

Probably the best schnitzel Iâve had. Great vibe, friendly staff. Iâll be back for sure!

Went on a Tinder date that was organised during Sydney covid2021 Lockdown. We had FaceTimed and text chatted for a few months. So we appeared to be fairly âintroducedâ by date night at the Toxteth, Glebe Road, Glebe. The Toxteth layout is good. There are pretty much three areas for drinking, eating and vaping or if youâre old school hard case, smoking. Also they serve pints (average $10.00 per pint). Date didnât go well. She said to me, âI can tell you why woman are not attracted to you..â I declined the feedback not with sour grapes but with the self determined knowledge that beauty, attraction, friendship is in the eye of the beholder. Thus, still single and still looking. Though I will say that Iâll organise any possible future dates to the Toxteth. Great atmosphere, food is good and reasonable. We shared a bowl of wedges with spicy sauce. It wasnât meant to be a long dinner date. More of a greet and meet. Though even though I was an unattractive date we ate, drank and talked for over three hours. Loads of busses up and down Glebe Point Road and also plenty of street parking if youâre not boozing. I must admit it would have been so good if the Sydney light rail went all the way up George Street and up and over Haymarket and along Glebe Point Road. Regardless, the Toxteth is a friendly, watering hole with loads of local buzz.

Healthy eating at Glebe - Toxeth ticks all the boxes - whether you are a vegan or just the opposite or even detoxing - the menu has something to offer everyone.

We came here for a sunday lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the place and the relaxed vibe. I ordered the salmon w/ watercress and potato and my hubby ordered the day's roast and both dishes were pretty good.

We enjoyed some food in the courtyard area of the Toxteth. Really liked the space - plenty of space, not loud, good vibe. <br/>Staff were friendly and very attentive. <br/><br/>The food was enjoyable with great flavours. <br/>We ordered the fish tacos which were quite large, although mainly filled with lettuce and capsicum. The fish was so delicate and had a nice flavour, although I wish there was much more of it (the piece of fish was small). <br/><br/>The parmigiana was large, and I would expect that considering the price of it. Again, really enjoyed the flavour and tenderness of the chicken. <br/><br/>Would go here again if I was looking for a pub meal in the area.

The new management has changed the chef and the menu. Have ordered most things off the new (limited) menu now as we are locals, and itâs all been well below par. The âjusâ which is served with everything is like Gravox powder. Steak over cooked. Fish under seasoned. Items missing. Everything is just somewhat lacklustre as is the overall ambience. So disappointed, the Tocky user to be fantastic!

Haven't been to a lot of pubs so I guess this is a standard pub place with bar tap, pool tables and quite decent food. We initially came here for the famous pork chop but they didnt have on the night so we switched to fish, steak and soft shell crab burger. They all taste quite nice.
Lunch Pie
Great venue with lovely decor. Friendly staff and pretty outdoor area. We got the camembert with quince and grapes. We also ordered the southern fried drumsticks with chipolte sauce. The presentation was excellent I must say. The cheese was gorgeous. The drumsticks.....nothing to write home about. There were like something you'd buy pre-packaged in the supermarket and cook in your own home. I was expecting crunchy and juicy but instead got a barely there coating which looked overcooked. Overall though, I would definitely try out some of the rest of the menu. Great venue, especially for summer

I love a great pub feed. When you think about it, they're always the same offerings, so when it's below expectations I take it pretty hard. It's food that's cooked repeatedly, and pub menus barely change beyond steaks, schnitzel and pasta. Firstly - only one steak at Toxteth. My medium arrived well done, and a medium rare arrived medium-well. They're also coated in some kind of seasoning which goes beyond salt and pepper, and frankly it shouldn't be there -I'd like to taste meat. The pepper sauce is another story - paying extra for a measly pot of goop  that not only had mushrooms but tasted like nothing more than Maggi beef stock. I'm all for seasoning for food, and I'm a salt fiend most times but this was too much. Perhaps that's what dried it all out. <br/><br/>Outside of the shockingly bad experience in desperation for a tender meaty steak, the beer on tap is good, and can hold a head down to the bottom, even for a slow(er) drinker. The outdoor pub fitout is perfect - open, airy and light. I could sit here for hours if I had a better experience from the bistro.

Have had lunch there during the week twice recently because the quality of the food was very high. They do a $14 lunch with the standard pub fare but I have to say the fish and chips was great - fish moist and batter crispy and a good portion too for the price. The week before we went for the main courses and my snags and mash with a pepper sauce were some of the best sausages I have ever had. All the meals were of equal high standard and generous portions too. The outside courtyard is great, spacious and plenty of room for smokers too and the music wasn't too loud but good choices. All in all a great place for a few drinks and good pub food. Will definitely go back.

Good food, too many tvs though all switched to sport. Beer garden is cool unless it's crowded and then you can't talk during your meal and don't forget most of it is the domain of smokers only! Dining room ok, too brightly lit, a bit lacking in vibe.
Michael Smith
Four of us choice different meals on a Saturday at 7:30 right next to the ordering area. Meals good, service good the problem we left our clothes stunk of cigarette smoke. We were the furthest away from the smokers the others would have a lot worse than we had.
Sweetandyummie
This is a nice pub located in Glebe that has lots of space and a cute courtyard to kick back and relax. The menu is fresh and delicious and the customer service is fantastic. I highly recommend the Pork belly and the dessert.

Sam: As Far as pubs go this one is one of my favorites, played chess in the court yards with strangers that told me about their life that started in Siberia and somehow ended up her liquored up and playing chess just like a me where my life has started in an equal remote corner of the world. Drinks are reasonable and they have wine tasting night which is worth it if into wine. <br/>Food is simple but well made, they do get very busy on the Friday and sat night but these are not the nights I've been. I usually went on quite nights with few friends or during the days when not at work for a chess or a dart game.

Menu is pretty standard fare for a pub, perhaps with the exception of a baked camembert plate which I had alongside a sirloin.<br/><br/>The steak was slightly over-cooked but still very much enjoyable. The camembert was quite good, I don't really have anything to compare it to.<br/><br/>Plentiful seating.
FitnessFoodie
Cosy pub perfect for a winter's night!<br/>It's actually a really big space with several dining areas. My fav is the room at the back with the gas fire!<br/>The food is pretty standard pub grub. I had the salmon and my friend had the beef burger. Both were good servings and didn't take too long to come. (Having said that, it was a Sunday night and not particularly busy.)<br/>Overall a good experience and would definitely wander back.
Greedygreedyguts
Bog-standard pub with loud sports area. Chicken schnitzel was reasonable but service was very slow. I waited more than 30 minutes on a busy Friday night. They also got my friend's order wrong.

I booked the Toxteth for a function 4 months before the event and everything was fine until a few short weeks before the event, they contacted us and told us we would have to move our event as their sponsors wanted to use the space we had booked. Â There was no apology or sincere offer to compensate us for the huge task of having to find another venue for an 80 person function at short notice, reprint invites, etc. Â They (Sarah) were rude and highly unprofessional.<br/><br/>The managers of their sister venue told us this sort of things was being reported to them a lot from customers who had been dealing with the Toxteth.<br/><br/>They almost ruined a very special occasion for us and would strongly recommend that people looking for a venue to celebrate an occasion steer clear of the Toxteth.

Itâs good eating but not for the faint of heart. As pub fare? Itâs superb. $15 and there was a lot of wings to eat.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
" I am a chef and cannot keep calm, â is printed on a nicely thematic Union Jack affixed to the kitchen. By contrast though, the men inside the glass box are deadly silent, moving like a well-oiled machine. This is lucky because this popular Glebe local is packed with a mixed bag of locals and visitors. A somewhat forlorn music trivia host tries his best to lure diners inside, but itâs clear... ...my fellow Aussie all-weather backyard compatriots are here for generously portioned ten-buck rump steaks or fish and chips, from the Monday/Tuesday Dinner Menu. I dabble with lightly battered Jalapeno Poppers ($12) with cream cheese, smoky bacon and Baja sauce, and... ...panko-crumbed Brie ($13) with sweet-chilli jam and aioli, before moving onto sliders. Twenty bucks buys you four, and conveniently there are four choices: â Zucchini â, â Crab â, â Buttermilk Chicken â and â Beef â. The latter scrubs up best with good patty char from the fast-paced grill. My meal highlight was...

Value meals decent, rest is pretty poor. Been coming here for weekly trivia for approx 18 months and every time I have dared to go beyond the $10 menu it has been disappointing. Mostly tiny servings of poorly cooked dishes comprise their chefs menu, and the prices are pretty ridiculous.

Tonight the food was horrible. I had the buttermilk chicken burger which was burnt bun and the fried chicken batter just dripped off. My friend had the $25 special chicken drumstick and rice salad. I can not stress how bad these over priced Sydney pub wank-on meals were. I've been a local here for years, god knows who's running the kitchen tonight because I'm left with the aftertaste of goulash fermenting in the pit of my stomach!!! I'd need to have my head read if I ever go there again for a meal. Dirty pub grub Mr Toxeith...

I'm just visiting Glebe but if I lived here this place would be my local. It's a pub that does food so if you stick to the usual pub grub it's great. Well priced and good beer garden. Had the burger and if I was being super picky I'd say the meat was dry and bun a tad stale. Wife got the salad nicoise and again tuna over cooked and salad is only dressed with aioli. Note to kitchen toss through a vinaigrette and add the aioli on the side. It's a condiment not a dressing. The other members of our party got a pasta and the fish and chips which they both said were fantastic. All in all I would go back, the prices are right and if you just stick to the basics then you won't be disappointed

Lobster not really. Two weeks running I have been bitterly disappointed with the Toxteth. I generally enjoy the pub but after a beer from tap which was obviously from a fouled barrel and the next week a so called lobster mornay, a disgusting combination of gristle and flavour which is still returning to haunt me two days later I would not recommend the Toxteth with any confidence. Having eaten there on a number of occasions the food is rarely first rate, vegetables are never cooked and the most expensive steaks are ordinary at best. We all like to make a quid but lowering standards for a quick dollar, is a poor act and easily followed. DO NOT EAT THE LOBSTER MORNAY THESE LOBSTERS ARE AT LEAST A YEAR OLD AND YOU WILL SUFFER,

I have been dining at the Toxteth every week for the past 2 years. Their bistro WAS very good. However over the past few months it has been in definite decline. <br/><br/>Items I have ordered that were very sub par: <br/>â˘Tuna nicoise - tuna was so well done that it turned to dry powder in my mouth. <br/>â˘Pepper sauce serve as a side to chicken schnitzel was so sour that it tasted off. <br/>â˘Spinach & ricotta cannelloni served with a red sauce. The sauce was so sweet it was reminiscent of tomato ketchup or SPC spaghetti out of a can. That was returned to the kitchen. The staff seemed annoyed that I returned it. I took a refund instead of another type of food. <br/>â˘A panacotta dessert which was so runny that it was almost runny yoghurt in texture - also returned to the kitchen for a refund to the indignation of the staff. <br/>Other friends who also eat here have had issues with their food. <br/><br/>You may ask why do I still go? Essentially this pub has a great trivia night that my group of friends enjoy going to. If the bistro doesn't improve my friends and I will be having dinner elsewhere prior.

Great beer garden, but..... ... It is pretty expensive or what it is. The food was only just ok- I chose a salad nicoise, and while some elements were quite nice it was over-dressed and my tuna was a bit over cooked. However the atmosphere was really nice, so I think I'd give them another chance. Looking around, some of the other meals I saw coming out did look good.<br/><br/>Minor gripe- we'd eaten at the Vic on the Park in Enmore the day before. The menu is almost identical. Didn't realise they're obviously part of the same group. Fair enough, but duplicating a menu is a bit lazy. And for the record, the Vic did a better job.
GlebeCats
Good standard pub grub with changing specials menu. The covered outdoor area is nice but the non smoking laws are not enforced so stick to the indoor areas or go to the AB down the road.

BAAAD. I got a beef burger, that literally didn't have a speck of greenness or vegetables on it. <br/><br/>it was literally a pattie with bread, some sauce and a slice of cheese. <br/><br/>basically it was a disgrace and the only meal that I've ever confronted chefs about in my entire life<br/><br/>put some pickle and spinach onion on it or something you bums
Mmann
Nice fit out - terrible food. The food here is very ordinary and not good value. The fresh snapper and fennel sald with a side of hand cut chips cost $30. The hand cut chips were frozen chips, the fish wasn't fresh and the fennel salad was missing the fennel! This chief thinks his customers are suckers who will accept whatever he dishes out.

Bar redone well, good vibe, poor food. Its been a long time between drinks and we are a long, long, long way away from the "Tacky Tocky". The refurb is fab and the beer garden very cheery. Looking at the menu in anticipation thought the food might just match but unfortunately not quite there. How hard is it to get a hot chip, they were warm at best. The fritter burger had a commercial dip on it and too much mayo with a pedestrian bun. Steak was done well.
Art Vark
Poor food. The best item on the menu is the ten dollar barramundi and chips. If it's not on offer just drink, it's the wise choice.<br/><br/><br/>-----30 May, 2012-----<br/><br/>Nice refurb ... pity about .... The food. Agree chips are very ordinary. Over priced too - $18 for a pea & ham soup with bread roll is amazingly overpriced? The ten dollar lunch specials are ok value but a BLT & chips at a cafe is about $10 anyway. And compared to somewhere like the Abercrombie it's not value or quality.
Jessica
I like the Bison head! Frequenting the toxteth much more since the refurb. It's much less old man pub now.. Definitely a cooler viber. The new menu is great, 50c chicken wings on Friday can't be beaten. They do need to improve their chips though..very important!
PatM
Bison head? Really?. What is with the Bison head above the bar?<br/><br/>This is Glebe, not the mid-west or an African game reserve. It's hideous and offensive to many patrons.<br/><br/>The food is solid and since the refurb it's otherwise quite nice inside, but we will not return until that god-awful thing is gone.
