Chose this venue for a recent birthday party - the upstairs function area has been very well renovated. The staff were very helpful with organising and booking, available to answer any questions, and this continued through to the night itself where manager Dimitri and all of the team were very friendly. It is a great area for a party, with a separate bar, toilets and our own music. The food platters were excellent and well received by guests. The other positive was that afterwards, we could go downstairs to the pub until 4am. I have no hesitation recommending this venue and thank the staff for helping to make it a great night. (The pub itself has genuine character with great food and drinks too).

The pub was nice and comfortable for dinner and drinks on a Monday night. They didn't seem to have weekly specials for meals. We got the rump steak with chips and veg for $25 each. The steak was beautifully cooked, tender and delicious. The portion was average. The Bernaise sauce was good. The peppercorn sauce however was not edible as it tasted too strong and bitter. Some of the Broccolini seemed burnt so tasted dry and bitter.

• Our event went very well with the revamped upstairs area providing a modern, classy and relaxed feel. The sophisticated couches and furniture are a nice touch.
• The food was a super high point with everyone commenting how fab it was.
• Staff were friendly and very helpful.
• Drinks were fairly priced and made well by friendly staff.
• All in all a great result and I’d happily recommend this venue.

One of the highlights of Surrey Hills/Waterloo. Great old pub with a nice blend of modern feel and the history of 1800's Sydney. Put this pub on your to do list because its one to do. Great service from the staff who let me taste a few IPA's before I settled on this lovely Battler. Five stars.

Great food, drinks, friends in a great atmosphere. Went for their weekend Greek lamb shoulder roast. Delicious!

We held our engagement party in the upstairs function room which has recently been renovated and provided a perfect setting for our party. The events team could not have been more helpful prior to our event as well as on the day, every request we made was granted! The catering menu was also delicious and I wish we ordered more. Thanks to everyone there for making it a special occasion for us.

I cannot fault the event, staff or food. Everyone did everything in their powers to make our event the success it was. The renovations to the upstairs space have been done very well and make it an oasis on Cleveland street.

This was the worst burger I ever had.
I was insanely hungry and I ordered a burger, so they gave me something that looked like a burger but it felt more like a burnt rock. The waitress (that was actually really lovely) looked and it and said that's she's really sorry and she brought me a new one, sadly it didn't help - the meat is probably bad quality and frozen because I couldn't eat more than two bites as I was actually traumatised.
The place is really nice for drinks and the stuff are incredibly welcoming but oh mighty, I wouldn't wish this burger to my worst enemies.

From my limited time living in Surry Hills this has fast become my favourite local. Great Trivia on Wednesdays and haven't had so much fun at a pool comp in a long while. Beer selection is great and service is even better. Cant wait to try and graft my way onto the winners board! Cheers

I've gone past Bar Cleveland quite a lot over the years and thought it had always looked a little shady. I now come here for steak night pretty regularly and on first visit i was quite impressed. Whilst it is a bare-bones cheap-and-cheerful type establishment, it ticks the boxes. $14 for steak and it's is usually pretty consistent. Whilst the 'plate' its served on is a little questionable its really good value. The peppercorn sauce has depth and real peppercorns, and steak is usually cooked as requested. <br/><br/>A quiet, low key, cosy venue perfect for mid week.

UPDATE Dec 18:<br/>Food is way better! And haven’t seen a fight or any violence around or outside the bar a over a year. I recommend the pie and the burger. Really happy the food has improved :) <br/><br/><br/>Food is terrible and there is a fight out the front of this place literally every Friday/Saturday night. I know as I live in the block. Surprised it's still going and staying open late

Not somewhere I would organize a catch up with friends or have a group get together. Each time we stopped by here was either a quick rendezvous before moving on to elsewhere or last drink before calling it a night. It lacked characters, decent pub grub or ambience. It's just a massive room with some beers on tap. Many more better venues in the area.

See this hotdog? Looks pretty good, right? Plenty of additions. <br/>It's stone cold. Yeah, a cold 'hot' dog. <br/>This cost $9.50. <br/>Even worse, my hopes were really high for this. I was excited to be in here due to the sign on the street promoting these hotdogs, that were only available from 9.30. We got here at 9. We bought beer and played Street Fighter and pool until they were ready to serve this up. At 9.48 we went to the counter and asked for our hotdogs. Except, they weren't ready. No tongs apparently. Had just received 80 orders to the kitchen so they were running behind we were told. Chris is a bit of a numbers man, so he did his thing and counted 37 potential patrons. 80 was a lie. <br/>All of a sudden there was a bunch of tongs and they were ready. <br/>Out come the hotdogs. Stone cold, overpriced hotdogs.

Well it's been two times now in as many weeks that we have waited an hour for our meal. Tonight our meal order was cancelled but the kitchen staff! I don't normally complain but this was the second time we have waited a long time for a burger & nachos! Bar Cleverland handed over a $50 voucher with a one week expiry. I guess that's better than nothing however I probably wouldn't eat here again.

Nice pub around the corner of my friend's house. We went there for a dinner last night. We all had chicken parma and they have a special on mondays and tuesdays so we paid $16 for parma and a beer. Its a really good deal. I got the one with pinapple, cheese, ham and the napoliten sauce. Was delicious.

Did anyone say pub bargain meal baby? For a mere $15, I got a mexican flavoured chicken parma with a beer. The chicken parma was exactly what I wanted. It was crunchy, covered in cheese and other delights like pepperoni and it sat on a bed of crispy chips and refreshing salad. The beer went down my throat so very well after this delicious meal. Price: On a Monday $15 baby!!!!!!

This bar has a pretty mellow crowd, some slot machines, a nice outdoor seating area and some great food. I find that dropping by here and ordering a pint of Vale or Coopers and then hitting the slots is a nice way to wind my night down. Of the food I've tried here I'd say the Wagyu burger is the best thing they've got going and pretty much melts in your mouth. If you're just looking for a snack the Calamari is only 12 bucks and is a decent enough portion to hold you over before your next meal.

While the food is generally good here, i find its more of a late nite end up than a start of nite destination. Staff could be much more friendly. 3 stars
