The cheese and ham toastie is EVERYTHING! Oh my gosh, so so so good, best I’ve ever without an doubt. The onion jam is yum. The cold brew coffee is energising, nice shot of caffeine but refreshing. The store is clean, modern, industrial. Staff is super efficient and friendly. Eat in and take away options. Parking in the area is difficult but there is a click and collect service which is great for passing through on the way to work etc.

Their mission loaf is one of my favourite sourdoughs I've tried yet. The crust is extra dark and flavourful but the middle is super soft, moist, airy and spongy. You can get a half-loaf which is great because the whole loaf is about half a meter long and very wide. They will also slice it for you now!

Lovely roomy well laid out cafe with delicious artisan bread and pastries to choose from.
Good coffee! ☕️ A bit hit and miss with staff. Mostly good. Had an interesting experience with one vague server who took my cash for 2 coffees and 2 croissants (I told her to keep the change) but she only recorded the coffees on the receipt for the barista and when I asked the barista for my croissants once the coffee was made she said I mustn’t have paid for them because they weren’t on the order. When I asked if 2 coffees would normally cost $20.00 something must have twigged because the initial server did get me my croissants but I’m still not sure if she remembered and no apology. All felt a bit weird really but still good coffee and something to talk about when I got back to the apartment!😊

Fantastic hidden coffee place, nice, comfortable, good chill music ideal to start off the day with good mood

The BEST lamingtons ever!
The mission loaf and avocado toast (with the extras) is also really good.

Good Espresso and great pastries. The bacon and egg roll is the 💣‼️

Had a wonderful time and excellent service at the Sonoma café. The bread for the Reuben sandwich was crunchy and fragrant, really well balanced. The rigani fries from the fish burger were some of the best fries I’ve ever had. The staff were very accommodating to our food specifications with the burger (allergy to avo) and even jazzed up the greens after removing the avo to balance out the burger! But the sour dough donut with creme patisserie was a tad dense and underwhelming

What a find and a great way to soak up last nights fun if you know what I mean. This place sort of reminds me of Tivoli Road Bakery & Baker D.Chirico in Melbourne for the breads and pastries. Had to have a breakfast pit stop before a loaded day around Sydney with fam & friends. Perfect breakfast showcased on their artisan bread washed down with a great coffee. Also got to take some goodies home for later to snack on. Awesome cafe!

One of the best breakfast I’ve had.
Simple coffee and pastry do the job, I’m happy.
Piccolo was awesome, and the pastry, what I think is the “seasonal danish” section was amazing.
Love it!
Penelope
Slightly disappointed. I could smell the aroma of fresh bread upon arrival but was sold a loaf of sliced bread that felt 2-3 days old. Much prefer Brasserie Bread as they slice loaves on the spot.

As you can imagine, you can never really go ‘wrong’ with baked goods, the alexandria branch I believe has the bread house as well as an attached cafe. There’s a wide range of brekkie dishes, sandwiches and of course bread. In this instance we took it to go, almond croissant ($5), pain au chocolat ($5), pork/fennel sausage roll ($7) and a chilli/ garlic sourdough twist ($6.50). The croissants are good but pretty standard (tastes better when lightly toasted), the sausage roll was good (nice fennel flavour and juicy filling), but the star was the sourdough. Such a nice yeast flavour, great by itself but would have been even better with a bruschetta or dip of some sort. Highly recommend this!

Good experience with fresh and affordable brunch selection. Nice deco and beautiful staffs with smile. Definitely will recommend it! I love the seeded baguette and all foods ordered taste surprisingly nice. Thank you.

The coffee was hot and creamy with a good interesting flavour, just as well for $4, while the croissant was fresh and flaky but not very buttery. I think they use pepe saya butter and clearly didn’t use much because it didn’t have the margarine-like tang of pepe saya. It was a huge croissant though yet the same $4 that most places charge.

Service was a problem. It’s table service if you dine in so I sat outside, then went inside to pay and had to join a long queue of takeaway orders. I saw mobile eftpos terminals so you can probably pay at the table but with all 3 staff behind the counter and very busy, that would have taken forever.

Been here a few times and consistently great coffee. Love the baguettes as well. Haven’t had a chance to try the food yet but keen to come back for it.

3.5/5
Overall delicious food and good time catching up with our friend.

The minus star comes from the above average price tag and a slightly rude waiter. He motioned us to our seat but told us off of seating down, only to put down cutlery and menus, 2 things he wont have problems doing even with us seated, so not sure why he was annoyed.

The food was ok, and the coffee is good. The croissant for my scrambled and salmon is very buttery and airy, very well done.
Friend’s thick cut bacon looked very mouthwatering, and boyfriend’s chilli scramble is very filling, quite a big portion of added side of bacon, unlike the french toast Jasmine got, which would have been even smaller without the side of bacon.

Got there way too late for breakfast (a bit disappointed as really wanted to try their French Toast or Chilli Ricotta scramble eggs). They also ran out of pies by the time we got seated. There's a bit of wear with the furnishings as the cover of couch we were sitting on most of the faux leather were peeled off. Service was a mostly ok, but not really the most friendly. Aside from these the food were quite nice. I had enjoyed my haloumi burger, the chips were very moorish, as with my friend who got the Blackmore Cheese Burger. A bit out of the way unless you live around the area or visiting in the vicinity.

Lovely friendly staff and beautiful food. Eggs cooked to perfection, beautiful sourdough and amazing butter. Not to mention delicious coffee 😍
@KeraBearEats
I don't normally like to eat bread but I definitely don't mind a visit to Sonoma for a cheeky snack. The ladies behind the counter are always friendly, and they do quite nice coffee. I always get the Avocado on toast, simple and predictable but it never disappoints.
The Engineer Eats
Had Breakfast at Sonoma Bakery Cafe recently and I loved it! I had the Pimenton poached eggs, the paprika smoked labneh with burnt butter is so good and moorish! And the sourdough bread (which they are famous for) is amazing. Friendly service as well! The only drawback was the pastries we ordered, didn't quite like them. Definitely be back for the brunch!

Absolutely fantastic coffee , and the bread is amazing!! Beautiful café setting, efficient service from very friendly staff Highly recommended

If I could rate lower I would. I work around the corner from this cafe. Enough is a enough, I normally buy a coffee a day from this place. Usually get breakfast a couple time a week. 4 times in a row (this is how patient I am) I order My toast. 4 times in a row they have stuffed up my order. Last 2 times I brought up the issue and still it got stuffed up. Lovely people work in there mid you but for the price I would recommend going to Cantine Vert around the corner or Bourke Street bakery. You'd be able to get a park. Spend your hard earned elsewhere.

Sonoma Cafe is one of the finest bakeries in Alexandria. Their outlet at Alexandria is presumably their headquarters where pastries, breads and croissants are freshly baked. I tried their signature brownie and iced latte. Oh dear! Their brownie (with nuts) tasted smooth and rich. Their iced latte was thick and milky. A good time to spend my afternoon with the brownies and croissants while waiting for the rain to stop.
Giz401
Went there for a coffee and breakfast. Were not disappointed, friendly staff, good food, good coffee. The only improvement I would suggest is the quality of the coffee beans. Coffee was a bit bitter.
Thewhereto
I popped in here for a coffee and food on the way to work. The space is large, lots of tables and I like the dim atmosphere and styling. The ladies serving were incredibly bubbly and friendly for the early morning so that was great. I got a chai latte, they do the brewed type. I also ordered a ham and cheese croissant which was so beautifully presented, seeds on top. They offered to heat, but as I was in a rush I took it and heated later - it was incredibly good! One of the best. I was also keen on something I saw on the counter - a baklava croissant with rose water. I took this to work and my co employees certainly loved me today! What a great idea - add it to the regular menu guys! They do also sell granola, coffee and breads.

Healthy carbs ninja!!

Ever walk pass a bakery and smell whats going on? This place is filled with fresh bread smell and they serve food from their own bakery!

Delicious artisan bread baked fresh daily (Next door) and serving with healthy menu items to please all.

My favourite was the "Rotisserie of the day" which was roasted chicken!Thick cut maple bacon, Honey glaze ham! Omg christmas came here early! The chilli fried egg was good and healthy!

The cafe is inside a big warehouse and decked out nicely, love this place but shame its far away from me ....

Until next time .... Keep eating!!!

The best crispy almond croissant I've ever had before. Famous loaf of Sonoma sourdough, I tried one of the gorgeous looking Soy & Linseed and beautiful , not too sweet orange and poppy seed cake. All tasted wonderful. My work colleague & I did a little bakery tour around Alexandrea at lunch break & really keen to grab some more. Great customer service, friendly staff and elegant package.

In March 2001, Sonoma sold its first sourdough loaf in Sydney. A father and two sons who had zero knowledge about bread took on the challenge, and through endurance and perseverance, they’ve created one of Australia’s finest artisan sourdough bakery. An avid baker myself, I understand how much blood and sweat are needed to churn out a single loaf of bread, and I definitely know a good bread when I taste (or even smell) one, Sonoma has topped my list of to-go places for quality artisan bread in Sydney.

I don't understand why this place is not better rated. The coffee is ok, not the best. BUT I love love love their morning bun, ham&cheese croissant, bacon & egg roll, and so many other goodies! We also had a yummy salad and had the best Anzac biscuit on Australia Day! It's always a treat to go hear!

Vanessa: It is commonly known that bread is a weakness among us at Team FFS so when an opportunity arose to try the new “Citizen of the World” menu at Sonoma Alexandria we did not hesitate. It was girl-date that day as Bianca and I arrived at Sonoma and were greeted by the lovely, exuberant Retail Operations Manager, Eirini. From the minute we met Eirini, it was clear to us that she was passionate about her job and proud of what Sonoma represents.

Chewsday eats starting @sonomabakingco in Alexandria and there occasional double bacon cheeseburger special 👏

Sonoma's house made enriched milk bun with double Blackmore wagyu beef, bacon, american cheese, onion, lettuce, beer battered chips and a trio of sauces 🍔🍟

Good quality beef on the freshest of buns! Punching 👊 these guys have full menus at Alexandria and Randwick so check em out for brunch or lunch and check out the Link in my profile for how to help support 'Chew for Charity' 💸

Good coffee and good service. Quinoa salad was nothing special and so was the chocolate croissant. However you dont come her for a salad! The bread is delicious!

I've wanted to love Sonoma given how nearby it is but ever visit I've felt disappointed once I sit down. On busy weekends, the staff are hardly able to manage a queue or keep you informed of times and movements with tables whom are leaving. When not busy, the staff are disinterested and the place feels like a takeaway outlet, particular considering the trays they give you.
Not all the food is fresh, portions are small with higher prices, and I'm perpelexed to think why a sourdough bakery would serve an open sandwich un-toasted knowing consistency of sourdough. I've nearly lost half my meal simply trying to cut.
Better coffee elsewhere..
Gaeth Al
I'll get straight to it... The menus only have half the food written on, the other half is written on the wall behind the counter. The waiter sits you down and hands you menus but doesn't tell you "hey this is only half the food we have, the other half is on the wall" anyways the food quality is average. The almost croissant is amazing though
The RnB Diary
On the way back from the airport, we were looking for a place for afternoon tea. Suddenly I shouted out to my husband to turn around when we drove pass Sonoma cafe as I heard so much about it. After a sharp U turn (do not recommend) across busy traffic we pulled into the side street where the cafe was. This is what my husband said to me "never knew anyone got so excited and nearly got run over by traffic for some bread!". I didn't respond but I knew the food itself would explain why the sharp manoeuvre was worth it. I had latte and my husband ordered the hot chocolate, they were both on point. Now when it came to sweet treats, I really couldn't make up my mind from a good selection of deliciously looking pastry. So upon staff recommendation I ordered the cinnamon bun and creme tart. Omg, the pastry was so flaky, the aroma from cinnamon stimulated my sense before I even took a bite. It was divine. It was more than what I expected for afternoon tea.

On the way out I couldn't resist but hovering over the shelf near the counter where all different types of sourdough were displayed. I never knew they came in so many different flavours, it was mind-blowing. Needless to say I didn't go home empty-handed, we nibbled on the bread rest of the day as snack and loved it.

You know things are desperate when you arrive back into Sydney airport and don't get past Alexandria before having to stop for a coffee. After returning home from America, you really do appreciate the coffee we have in this fine country of ours. Sonoma nailed it.
Chilli Feli
Chic cafe in an industrial setting - their signature miche sourdough and artisan breads feature in the variety of sandwiches and breakfast options they have on offer. The eggs benedict was superb, a lingering fragrance of tarragon lifts the dish up. The baked eggs was also true to its shakshuka roots, filled with lamb meatballs and a sprinkling of sumac on a dollop of yoghurt. Of course, the coffees are top notch here too. Highly recommend a brunch session!

It's always hard to choose when you have to great bakeries just meters apart. But this place is just as good as Bourke street bakery and is useful when the former is very busy

I especially like their range in sandwiches which are always changes throughout the day to reflect the time of day
Laura B
The menu is small with few out of the ordinary dishes. The quality of what is served is definitely above expectations. Their ham and cheese croissants are great. Service is often slow as they do get busy. The winning dish on my last visit was the kale, salmon and poached egg breakfast. Perfect combination for a hung over Sunday!

I discovered Sonoma about a year ago. At first we really enjoyed having breakfast there, especially the poached eggs with hot smoked salmon. I dont know what happened over the last couple of weeks, but they dramatically changed their portion size (much smaller now) as well as the quality of the food they serve. I was about to ask the waiter to bring us a steak knife (I'm not kidding here) to cut my bread- thats how old and hard the bread was. We couldn't even touch the kale as it wasn't in good condition. I don't want to comment on the eggs, I still have stomach ache from that day. We chucked the coffees to the bin as soon as we got out. On top of this, we paid $60 for 2 people and got out of there hungry. Never going back to this place

A great selection of sandwiches, nibbles, tarts etc.

Staff are quite friendly especially when it's busy they appreciate your patience.

And their coffee is really good, just parking is a bit difficult to find especially when it's lunch time.

This place is seriously a joke. For one the menu is nothing like the one on this site (the menu has like 3 options). Then it's in the middle of the ugliest industrial street. Finally, everything is filthy. Cutlery, tables, plates and (worst) the water cups. We got 7 different cups and all of them were filthy (not just specks, massive smears of sauce). Seriously unpleasant. The food is ok and pretty cheap (though $9 for their cold pressed juices which aren't even that good is a rort) but I can't forgive filth.
MKC Inc.
Good place with very nice coffees. All bread is freshly baked on the premises. A few things I didn't like which we're downers. Ordered a bruschetta which was one piece of sourdough and topping for $12, very expensive for what I got. We also ordered the kalamata olive sourdough sandwich with bocconcini, tomato and basil also for $12. The serving was small enough for a child. Don't get me wrong, the sandwiches were delicious but a little over priced for what we got. All sandwiches were sitting in the window and not freshly made to order. But I have to say their breakfast muffin was delicious - a croissant and muffin in one with a perfect amount of sugar and cinnamon.
Gabbys79
Absolutely love Sonoma bread. Its my favorite sour dough and continues to be. Every outlet is just as great and Alexandria is no different. we always get a coffee and a cake whilst stocking up on the bread we love. always yummy

What a waste of time and money waiting 15 min for one coffee and have to left without it
2-3 person r just welcoming the people what is the point off that when food service is pretty bad

Good iced coffee, great venue. Didnt eat this time but will be in the future. Coffee is a good roast at this joint , strong and not to bitter. Dined with friends for coffee and will definately return. Great atmosphere. Left with urges to buy bulk loaves of bread for some reason :P
TraceyCharlotte
Great breakfast menu and pastry selection. The coffee is good too, although I prefer Bourke Street Bakery's just around the corner. The edge Sonoma has on its competition is its distinctively cool, modern space venue. It reminds me a lot of the cafes in SOHO New York and the music complements the feel of the place as well. Great for business/professional meetings. No cramped seating like you will experience in almost every other café in Alexandria.
Paula Morgan
Consistantly good service, friendly attentive staff and delicious salads. We visit at least once a month and I have never been disappointed.
Pie For The Road
If you live in Sydney or are just passing through, you definitely should make a stop and pick up some sourdough bread (or maybe a pastry or two). We also highly recommend their Organic Apricot Jam to go with that bread!
Edibles And Travels
Sonoma is quickly gaining a name for itself as some of the best artisan bakers in town, with even three hatted restaurants such as Peter Gillmore’s ‘Quay’ serving their scrumptious bread. It’s probably one of the best cafes in Alexandria. Big call, I know.

BEST cinnamon scroll around. It was light and buttery and flaky and so fresh. It was amazing.
Eat Me Happy
I can definitely taste the sourdough, and the pancakes are light and fluffy inside. The honeycomb cream is delicious with the berries which add an extra sour tang. It’s a lot less sweet than I anticipated, but it’s certainly a twist on the traditional pancakes with maple syrup combo which appear on so many breakfast menus. The breakfast basket is fresh, and contains toasted sourdough and croissants, and we have fun sampling the different jam optio

Having heard good things about Sonoma Bakery Café, the relatively new Sonoma HQ, we decided to head southwards for something new. We were greeted by a huge warehouse space, Allpress -like in its interior. An order-and-pay-at-counter affair, said counter was laden with delicious looking sandwiches and pastry. As we stood surveying the offerings, a barista offered us the breakky menu. Easy to see it was out first visit. Obviously there wouldn't be much point in ordering a Sonoma breakky if it didn't include toast. I went for the kind of thi

I had a very nice croissant from Sonoma‘s stall at Eveleigh Markets, which is consistent with the quality of their breads and other wares. (I am working on blog posts solely dedicated to finding Sydney’s best baguettes… stay tuned!)

For the love of good sourdough bread this place is a must to check out.
Food Booze Shoes
The beauty of having a Sonoma Bakery Café down a few roads from me means a quick, relatively healthy weekend breakfast is never too far, and without a massive queue. It also means amazing bread is nearly on my doorstep, which I look forward to taking advantage of once picnic season returns.

I ordered the Baked Eggs with Smoked Speck, Spinach & Sonoma Toast ($14) and was very pleased with my choice. The photo above makes the portion look a little small but it was actually very filling. The little chunks of speck were smokey, fatty and full of punch, while the oozy melted cheese added even more richness.
E.roubetis
Totally overpriced. $50 for two coffees, hard boiled eggs, a tomato sliced on a plate & two sides of feta & ham. Apparently they only do eggs one way - hard boiled. Absolutely no technique in the food prep to warrant such exorbitant prices. On the plus side, the bread was good. For these prices id recommend going to Bitton, cafe guilia or baroque (they are actually cheaper but the food is amazing!). If I wanted a boiled egg slapped on a plate I would have stayed at home and saved myself some time & money.
Gprodic
Overrated. Accidentally found this cafe while looking for some pet items in the area. Had the fruit slice. Too dry and bland. Had tasted better on other local cafes. Left food unfinished. Won't come back.

20min wait for takeaway banana bread with ricotta and a brusque, 'we know what you've ordered, wait over there for your order'. No thanks
Ronin47
Great bread, parking can be difficult. Been here several times before. Came here really early and still the whole street is parked out - who are these people since it's just industrial stuff around here? They have added egg options now so had the baked eggs. Expensive but the potato, chorizo and egg mix tasted good but the 11 seeded bread was still the best addition. Lots of seating and newspapers and service was good so no demerits today. Australian Federal Police were here as well for our protection.

With a well-known name, we were thoroughly disappointed with most aspects of the cafe. Food was subpar, with the poached eggs very well done. The coffee was very bitter and acidic even though the menu claimed it to be a double ristretto. Half the staff was visually incompetent. The waitress serving us the coffee did not realise that there was one soy and one regular coffee, and then she mixed up the coffee, which was uninvited for someone who is lactose intolerant. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back.

Nice. I bought their white sourdough loaf for $7 on a Saturday morning. Took it home. Cut it up. Grilled. And buttered. Delicious!

Great Place. Awesome place, enuf said!
Travelling Palate
Amazing cafe in the backstreets of alexandria. A wonderful cafe with unusual breakfast choices. D had Jordan's breakfast - gravalax salmon with avocado on soy and lineseed bread with poached eggs. Salmon was lovely and fresh and balanced perfectly with the avocado. I enjoyed the Baker's breakfast - poached eggs with bacon and tomato. Both of excellent quality would thoroughly recommend this place.

Could be better. Good food but service levels leave a bit to be desired unfortunately

First visit today, what to say except unbelievable. The Miche sourdough is perfection. We had the Miche toasted with avo, tomato, feta and herbs. Fresh, delicious and absolutely delightful. Coffee and service outstanding. To whoever thinks Bakers Delight is better clearly knows nothing about the craft of true sourdough bread making!
MaskedWright85
I love, love, love this place!. I go here every second weekend (just so I don't over do it). Everything is so fresh and tasty! To date, I have not had a bad breakfast from here. Affordable and the service is top notch! Very professional however it feels extremely laid back. Seriously one of the best places to go for breakfast!

Awesome bread possibly the best in Sydney. I love the 11 seed and the Mission loaf. Not sure about the last review by Yongdesu, comparing bakers delight??? I love how they do the toast with avo, salmon and egg. So simple but delicious. This is a must visit if you're down near the airport.
El Presidente
Delicious bread. Delicious breakfasts and sandwiches. Great coffee by single origin (i think). Bit pricey but its a cool space and i normally leave satisfied.

Horrible Bakery - Cheap Bread. As the title indicates, sourdough bread contains way too many holes for quality bread.

Would not recommend, overpriced for average quality bread. Recommend Bakers Delight.
